It will not "rival" the 84 draft.

    Ergo the word... No.

You realize you can only make a comparison like this after like 10 years, right? How are we supposed to know what kind of trajectory these guys have without even a full season under their belts?

I might as well tell you I think the 2025 draft class could rival 1984.

    LOL.

    No.

The first round picks in 1984 (24 of them) averaged over 10 years in the NBA. 14 of them played 10 years or more, 4 additional first-rounders played 5 years or more, and 10 players outside of the first round played 5 years or more.

    Here's the 12-man team from 1984:

    Olajuwon (12x All-Star)
    Jordan (14x All-Star)
Sam Perkins (15 years with 10+ PPG, 9 years with 7+ RBG)
    Barkley (11x All-Star)
Alvin Robertson (6 years on the All-Def teams, 3 years steals leader, 4X All-Star)
    Otis Thorpe (1x All-Star)
    Kevin Willis (1x All-Star)
Jay Humphries (6 years of 10+ PPG/5+ RBG/5+ APG combined)
Michael Cage (Led NBA in RPG one year)
    John Stockton (10x All-Star)
Jerome Kersey (7 years of 10+ PPG/6+ RBG combined)
Oscar Schmidt (All-time leading scorer in basketball history, Summer Olympics, and FIBA World Cup)

Honorable Mention: Rocket Legend Jim Peterson

No draft is beating that team.

These guys are good but no one is going to be at that top 5 all time level. Jordan, LeBron, Kareem etc were already dominant even before they got to the NBA. These guys can become superstars, sure but if you don't have someone in the GOAT convo, you're nowhere near 1984.

I think the whole point of this thread is because it is impossible to prove it in this moment.

Cogito ergo sum. In dubio pro reo.
Quod erat demonstrandum - victus sum.

    c/o 2021 needs to get past c/o 2009 first.

Two 75th anniversary players: Harden and Curry
4 All-Stars: Derozan, Holiday, Griffin, Teague
Being unofficially labeled as Morey's most favorite draft class as he went on to acquire/sign: Thabeet (2nd pick), Flynn (6th), Hill (8th), Squid (11th), Lawson (18th), Collison (21st), Carroll (27th), Douglas (28th), Taylor (32nd), LLull (34th), Beverley (42nd), Thornton (43rd), Budinger (44th),

Man... I wouldn't have raised an eyebrow if this thread came from lanimal, DD, or Williamson, but I am legitimately both surprised and disappointed at seeing the OP post something like this. Even having a fleeting idea of comparing any draft class in its first season to one of the most impressive drafts of all time is as indefensible as projecting a rookie's career before their first season has even ended.

I don't see why this is disappointing. It's a forum for basketball discussion. You can disagree, it's no problem. And while I think it's highly unlikely that this draft produces 2 top 10 players of all time, it's not Impossible.

I think getting so offended by this is quite irrational tbh.

It's the equivalent of saying Green will be better than Jordan or that he is a bust, just so stupid on a multitude of levels.

See that's where I diaagree. OP didn't say it will be better than 84' class. He just started a discussion and said it had a decent shot in his opinion. That's the difference for me.

I'm fine with any opinion. The difference is when People get angry and defensive about their opinion and act like it's a fact and undeniable (see BTG on Green)

It's fine tho I didn't want to start a fight here, I'm just surprised how many people get offended by this.

    Right on.

The 84 class is the gold standard.

And, for the first time in 37 years, when looking at the depth of quality players.....I see a really really deep and talented class that might approach it one day.

It's kinda funny as I'm one of the chief defenders of history....the past. I don't say it lightly.

Everyone's talking about the four or five elite players from 84. I'm not saying that these guys aren't the greatest.Just that I haven't seen such a strong, deep draft in many years.

Folks should be able to have a discussion without acting like four year olds, slinging personal insults.

As you said, I just wanted to start a discussion about it....basically about how kickass I see this group, while not taking anything away from our sacred bunch.

It's about analyzing talent and projecting....

Again, these guys are flashing greatness in the Association already as teenagers....

If JG is the player so many think him to be....then it stands to reason that he would stand the test of time.

Same goes for Mobley, I like many see him as a transcendent player.

Cade is already doing the kinds of things folks envisioned.

Barnes is validating the Raptors "reach" at 4.

Giddey looks like a prize at 6.

    Kuminga is coming around.

    Wagner has surprised me.

Davion is going to be a stud in this league one day.

Duarte has shown out when given minutes.

Sengun looks like the steal of the draft.

Trey Murphy and Tre Mann both look to have a great future.

    Suggs Moody Bouknight Moody JC.....

HOW MANY BUSTS DO YOU GUYS THINK THERE AE IN THE TOP 20? HARDLY ANY, RIGHT?

Maybe I should have just titled the thread "the 2021 class has a legitimate shot at being one of the best of all time"...but, **** it! That's not where I wanted to go. And, if you find it so distasteful as to be rude ...Get the Hell out of my thread!
