From what I’ve heard, it’s Atlanta, which sucks because they really don’t have the draft capital all of us want. Caserio is going to have to push extra hard for us to get the value we should for a player like Watson. He’s going to need to play hard ball, or we are going to get seriously shafted. My expectation is that we are going to feel seriously underwhelmed unless Caserio flexes some muscle, but that’s not going to be easy under the circumstances.
What kind of draft picks could Matt Ryan fetch and could we be waiting for such a trade for those picks to be flipped to us?
This I’m not sure about. Former MVP caliber but getting long in the tooth. Who values him? Would it be a Stafford type deal?
We were always going to get some level of shafting. All this talk about Watson having no leverage was nonsense. He picks the team and once he does that team will try and lower their offer since he will only waive his no trade clause to them. We would want the Texans to do the same thing if they were in that situation.
My guess is that he has already picked Atlanta, and the delay is to so that Atlanta can unload Ryan to the Colts.
Watson has leverage, but so do the Texans. They could always tell the other team to kick dirt if they get low balled.
So... you think these teams will go back on the agreed upon deals that are supposedly already in place?
That’s exactly what’s happening, IMO. Not sure if it’s the Colts specifically- but I think the Falcons are trying to do right by Matt Ryan and essentially get him somewhere where he wants to go. Out of the QB needy teams- the Colts may be the place Ryan prefers. Also in play are the Seahawks, Browns, and possibly the Panthers- doubtful Atlanta would trade him within the division though.
Consensus media opinion, after skimming a couple articles on the subject, is that between taking on Watson’s salary and Matt Ryan’s salary, the Falcons would need to find a way to clear $53.8million in salary which means they would have to get a trade partner to take on Matt Ryan’s salary reducing the value the Falcons would receive back in trade
The shithole Falcons, …the same situation he’s trying to leave. No RBs/WRs Shoddy OL Bad defense No draft picks but at least he gets to go home, amirite Spoiler Texans might get some good top 15ish picks
Does anyone know the NFL trade rules. Could Atlanta even make this trade if the salaries don't work? Seattle or Indy could actually extract a pick in a trade for Ryan since they have cap room. Or maybe the Texans get Ryan as a throw in to flip to another team.
I do not believe they have every piece of the deal agreed to. What kept being reported is they have the "parameters" of a trade. We've been hearing all along 3 firsts and then additional picks/young players totaling about 6 assets. I think it is entirely possible that when the news breaks that Deshaun Watson has chosen the ______ team. They will TRY and use that leverage to make adjustments to the parameters. Maybe Atlanta won't include Terrell or want to change a 2nd round pick to a 3rd. We will get a sizeable return but I absolutley think it could be less than we have all thought or hoped.
