Baltimore isn’t bidding against themselves- they are bidding against their absolute ineptitude as a franchise and the shitty ass city the play in. You can’t sign a player in those conditions by being $1.00 better. You have to be a metric ****ton better.

Correa has had what seems like one healthy season. Which I think is what is giving teams cold feet about the type of length of contract he’s seeking.

Correa seems like a cool guy, and he is within his prerogative to seek the best contract he can negotiate. So as a fan, I say no hard feeling with whatever decision he takes. He put his sweat and body on the line every time he put on the Astros uniform.

Looks like Correa's price point just shot up faster than the used car market.

If those are the true numbers and I’m Crane I’m out on Correa and focusing on other ways to make team better.
Play Peña and hope he looks solid for a rookie.
Astros will have money to make a move for a trade later in the season.

Again, Baltimore’s “offer” has been leaked for some time now without anybody blinking.

    2016 and 2021 over 600 PA.
    300-500 PA in 2015, 2017. 2018 and 2019.
2020 - too short to tell.

He's no Iron Man, but who is these days?

Does he even want to go through another re-build of a team... I don't think so

Internet posters turning up their noses to 300m *fully guaranteed*is a fascinating segment of the population.

If CC gets that then good for him. Get yourself a nice tribute video and invest wisely. I’m sure he cares about legacy and all but cmon. Strawman argument. Go get your bag CC, and supersize it as much as you can

i think the Baltimore stuff is to test Crane’s resolve on how high he will go on AAV and whether he would agree to a 1 year opt out. In the absence of a better bidder than Baltimore, if I’m crane, I hold tight. Make a strong 1 year high AAV offer, or 6-7 year deal with an opt out after year 2, not year 1.
Nora’s is betting on the Astros not only worrying about Baltimore, but also the fact that the correa decision is holding up other moves, like perhaps Soler.

it’s not like correa needs much of a spring training to get ready, especially with the Astros. So they have lots of incentive to drag this out. The question is how long Baltimore allows Boras to mess around. They aren’t contending so what do they care.

All this tells me is that this could take a while.

James Click has a value that Correa is worth at 1,2,3,4,5,6 and 7+ years, and if Crane is smart he will listen to the executive he hired to help make these decisions and not offer more than that regardless of what the rumors are that other teams are offering.

yeah, but isn’t the majority of that bag still going to be there if he signs a 1 yr 45MM bag with the Astros to run it back one more time, leaving the chance to get a bag from a team less shitty than Baltimore?

Not if he messes his back up and misses 90 games.

Correa should absolutely take the 300 million dollar offer. I don't care if it is in Korea or Baltimore.

    Correa to Orioles?

The 2012 draft was most notable for the Astros' selection of Carlos Correa over Byron Buxton and others with the No. 1 pick. Mike Elias, the Astros' amateur scouting director then, was the driving force behind the Correa pick. And now that Elias is the Orioles' GM, it stands to reason he would have interest in Correa, the top remaining free agent.

Elias seemed to dismiss the idea on Monday, telling reporters it was unlikely the rebuilding Orioles would offer any free agent a multi-year contract. But Correa, according to a source with knowledge of the Orioles' thinking, might be an exception, if his price dropped to a level the club deemed appropriate.

What that level might be $50 million? $100 million? $200 million? is not known. Correa, 27, certainly is young enough to serve as the centerpiece of a rebuilding program. But many in the industry suspect Correa will wind up back with the Astros, perhaps on a short deal rather than the long-term, $350 million contract he desires.

Astros owner Jim Crane told Mark Berman of Houston's Fox 26 on Sunday that the team has reached out to Correa's agent, Scott Boras, and they were "in discussions." Those talks, however, seem to be generating little progress. While talks are fluid, and can change with one phone call, some with the Astros are pessimistic about the team's chances of bringing Correa back.

Hopefully this drama is over by the end of the weekend...so whatever teams are involved can get on with it. I hope he stays...but if he does go, as long as it's a deal that he just couldn't refuse, then so be it.

    I guess.

I don’t know what is going to happen but if they add Story at a reasonable deal add add another key piece or two I won’t be devastated.

Correa has only played two full seasons out of 6-7 years. No doubt Correa could win a couple MVP’s but he could also average 100 games a season the next half dozen years.

The Astros were confident 36 hours ago that they would be fine, so I am not stressed over it. They seemed more worried when Verlander got hurt FWIW.

They lost out on Danny Duffy who they had been talking with but I doubt that’s a big loss.

They also had discussions with Michael Conforto on a shorter deal.

Luhnow was the driving force in pushing for Correa… he went down to P.R. to see him after some Astros scouts were enamored. I’m not saying Elias didn’t want or push for Correa but the decision was made by Luhnow and that is the player he wanted.

Unless something has changed this is between Boras and Crane.

Not really seeing the additional pieces they are going to add if they sign Story. The free agent market is almost toast. I don't expect a corner outfielder like Conforto to be added that would require Tucker moving to CF after hearing Dusty make it pretty clear he wants Tucker in RF. If Correa goes to Baltimore we aren't landing Cedric Mullins with a package built around Pena since they would have their SS already. Reds GM pretty much pulled Castillo and Mahle off the trading block. Not seeing the A's willing to send us Montas. I don't view Manaea as much of an upgrade over what we have.

Right now it feels like the Astros are getting the Boras treatment just like the Beltran situation. All the free agents and trades are flying off the shelf and we are waiting around on Correa.

Duffy made some sense to me. He won't be ready for a couple months and would be a nice insurance policy. Oh well, Dodgers seem to always do those deals. They also brought back Jimmy Nelson who can't even pitch this year but they got him really cheap with a option for 2023.

I hope they pull something off. Where they sit now especially with the McCullers injury... they have slid down the pecking order for me based on what other teams have done. I like the White Sox and Blue Jays more in the AL. If the Yankees land Montas I would take them as well over the Astros. In the NL I like the Braves A LOT and they are still trying to bring Soler back. When Acuna is totally healthy they will be scary. Also the Mets adding Bassitt makes me like them more as well. Not convinced on the Dodgers with Kershaw coming off more injuries, losing Scherzer, and Dustin May recovering from TJ but they are really good after adding Freeman.

If the Astros don't make a significant move and keep their payroll under 200 million I'm going to be disappointed. Getting Correa would be great. Otherwise, Conforto, Story, and upgrading either the bullpen or rotation via trade would be awesome. Just having a hard time believing Carlos turns down 300 plus million if the Orioles offer is true.
