Hmmm, interesting that you have never considered that about discrimination as a reason. As for Syrian refugees, probably because of people like Trump when he halted all refugees during the pandemic. Muslim and terrorist fears, even though there were no links to Syrian refugees and terrorism. In fact, I personally fear people like the radicals who stormed the Capitol more than Syrian refugees. Trump also halted the issuing of visas to the nationals of six other mainly Muslim countries, including Iran, Iraq, Yemen and Libya, for three months to, in his words, "keep radical Islamic terrorists out of the US".
What are you thoughts on accepting people for things like experiencing racism or sexism but in a nonviolent context? Should that give someone refugee status? I think with Syrian refugees, it wasn't just Trump - many other countries such as those in Europe didn't want them either and restricted the number they would take. They said other countries around Syria should take them instead.

Fear of extremists and terrorists I guess, and lumping them all in the same category like Trump, Cruz, and the rest did with Mexicans and Central Americans as criminals, gangs, and drug traffickers. I am all for letting in people experiencing sexism and racism in their home countries when it is worse than here. It's bad enough in our country. Anyway, you and I are derailing a Ukraine thread. I think it's time to end this and get back on the topic of Ukraine. Not Syria, or anything else. You can start another Syria or brown refugees thread.
