So “**** them kids I need another ring”. Maybe foolish isn’t the right word but whatever it is it’s not a good thing.

The waiting game has Boras written all over it.

The silence and lack of leaks has Jim Crane written all over it.

They could certainly come out and say “we are moving on…”

There was also similar silence/inaction right before Verlander. Need JC Correa to break the story like Ben did.

I'm thinking 230 but I'm not going to sweat 10 million over 6 years. I think the players option will be after 2 years. Correa wants to be still in his 20's when he can hit free agency again.

Amen to that:cool: The title of this thread was a great offer. Add maybe 1-2 more years. Sign it and move on.

And this thread is 4 1/2 months old.

Great offer for whom? That offer didn't even get the Astros into Correa's house for a sit-down. We're in the conversation now because we've upgraded that offer significantly.

Jim Crane and his son are handling this directly without anyone else on their side (or they were as of yesterday). So if there are any leaks it will come from Boras and Correa....

There are other free agents waiting on the Correa contract decision as well.

I wish the Astros would have signed Archie Bradley.

The Angels got him for under 4 million dollars.

He would have been a good 7th inning guy.

It should have. I would go 7 years as max contract. Where have you heard it's been upgraded significantly?

    I'll take him.

I think he is better than Neris or Baez.

They have Pressly to close and they will hope Maton keeps pitching well to anchor the 8th.

I guess people can differ.... but Bradley for couch change seems like a good choice.

It was a reasonable starting offer that he was never going to take. Our actual starting offer was down right laughable from what I recall.

If he took the 5 year offer, and it panned out, he'd certainly have been in a position for a 2nd huge deal like Freddie Freeman just got (and the one Marcus Semien got earlier in the offseason) and make more money overall. Can't blame him for wanting the security though.

I'd offer him 10/$300M, with opt out after year 5. Front loading the contract $35M/year for those first 5 years. While less in value than Seager's deal, it provide the flexibility to make more long-term while securing his financial future.

Archie Bradley sucks. The only aspect about that is that Bradley at $4M is way better option than Neris at $8.5M each of the next 2 years (what a stupid deal that was). Honestly between Neris & Baez contracts, I wonder if Click should be allowed to sign deals with middle relievers. Baez at least had a great track record. Hell, throw Montero in there too, since we re-signed him for over $2M when he is a minor league FA type of guy. And he acquired Pruitt, who pitched all of 2 times for us.

    Yup.

A lot of the middle relievers recently signed have not really turned out well.

5.5 million this year for Baez..... 2 million for Montero..... Neris at 8.5 million.......

That is $16,000,000 for what will likely end up being a single pitcher (Neris).

It doesn't change anything you said before, but Pruitt was acquired (1/9/20) by Lunhow (fired on 1/13/20). (For the record, I'm with you on the Baez/Neris aspect)

Is there any source that doesn't repeat the speculation of Ken Rosenthal concerning terms? I think we're caught up arguing over something which might not be based in reality? Rosenthall did not REPORT terms, he speculated on what it might take. Very different. I can speculate too. But neither is based on INFORMATION from anyone with knowledge.

Are you seriously worried that the Houston Astros are going to somehow implode, or move, because they give Carlos Correa 10-15 million than you would for a single season?

5 YR 160M ($32M AAV) was offered 6 years at $40M AAV is steep, but fits the Astros History under Crane.

Thinking about the last bout with hyper-inflation, a player might be better off with 6 years at $32M AAV with an annual adjustment for inflation rather than $40M AAV.
