I think it depends on what your long term view of Sengun and Garuba are. Both can be very productive but also both are very flawed. I think long term they are likely both bench players. As for Duren, he did not look good until about a month ago, and since then he has really shown some ability to take and make some mid range shots.... so he may not be limited to a Capela type role.
At least at the high school level he can get a bucket anytime and almost any way Who knows how he plays against better, more athletic defenders in college. That's what he needs to prove.
I'd consider Duren later in the same range as Kessler and Williams I actually prefer Kessler of those 3, but not trading up into top #6-10 Sengun I'd consider the fit drafting that high as I see him starting at C long-term Garuba seems a poor fit already backing up Alpy He really needs to develop a corner 3 to play more as a PF/C and share court time other bigs
is it just me or is this draft class not that impressive? right now if we don't land chet i'm wondering if we should just sell the pick
I wouldn't say it is that bad, but there does seem to be only about 10 guys or so before talent drops off quickly into big men projects and if he could do this guys.
Yeah, I've got 9 guys with Sharpe in the Draft that I would be interested in trading up to get. Possibly 10 with Tari Eason. I'm also hoping Johnny Davis and TyTy Washington go in the top 10-12.
Chet feels like the only guy in this draft that is truly unique and has that "once in a generation" feel about him. I'm still concerned with his frame. I don't know if my heart can take watching him for years to come. Every time he falls down I cringe pretty hard. But he is worth the risk imo
I truly believe Sengun is a starting front court player for our future. Needs the right person to compliment him at both the other frontcourt spot and SF.
I'd be blown away with Chet or Jabari playing with Sengun. Holmgren at 7' with a 7'6" wingspan is a shot blocker deluxe, who also shoots 70% from two and 40% from three, with over 3 assists and nearly 10 boards per game. Crazy stats, and also a "crazy" physique that has many wondering whether it can hold up playing inside in the NBA. Personally, I think he's so unique, a true "unicorn," that he's worth taking the risk. Smith has the more classic NBA ready body, and he can do it all. He's quick, long, explosive, a lights out shooter from anywhere, including from distance, a terrific defender inside and on the perimeter, a 6'10" power forward who, like Chet, would fit very well with Sengun, in my opinion, just in a different way. Both would benefit immensely from Sengun's passing and creativity, both would help cover Alperen's perceived weaknesses on defense. Smith would be the safer choice between the two, were we lucky enough to have him fall into our laps. He would immediately have a major impact on the Rockets. He'd make everyone around him better. Holmgren has the potential to be a "generational" kind of player, a one of a kind nightmare that would keep opposing coaches up until the wee hours the night before a game against the Rockets, trying to figure out how to stop him on offense, contain his impact on defense. I'd jump up and down, yelling like a madman, if we got either one in this summer's draft. Of course, I'd love to have Ivey, as well. ;-)
Crazy hypothetical. Pkg Sengun, Tate and whoever for a pk in the 10-12 range. KPJ Green Eason Jabari Duren Damn!
If Orlando gets the 1st pick and we end up with a pick in the 4-7 range, there's a good chance one of Jonathan Isaac, Wendell Carter Jr, or Mo Bamba will be on the trading block. I would take Ivey with the 4th pick, send the 16th, Tate, and the 2023 Milwaukee pick for Bamba. He's got height, can be a very good defensive anchor at the 5, can stretch the floor with his outside shooting. Slide Porter to the 3 and go with a starting lineup of: Bamba Sengun Porter Green Ivey two middle-late 1st round picks might not do it but who knows? Hell I'd trade for Carter if we can't get Bamba.
Which is wild for someone who hasn't even entered the draft yet. My point is he's a very old freshman.
Not really.. that’s a nitpick. It’s 1 year lol. Chet, Banchero, Ivey and Sengun were all born in the same year.
A year is a big difference. Can be a huge advantage in development. It's odd to me that he's the same age as all of our rookies and literally older than some of them, even if it's by a few months. That's my biggest reservation about Chet. Is he's as old as a sophomore, but he still weighs less than 200 lbs.
