You still don’t get it. The reason nobody takes you seriously is your child like grasp of anything outside your video games. goto a war torn area one day, I have. Really makes you appreciate how people bleed, get hungry, starve, and look the same on the inside. racists like you have deluded yourself. The left is full of countless people like you
You aren’t wrong about the level of atrocity stomached by the US in Syria but the fact is in Syria we didn’t necessarily have a unified population and stable government to truly back. The citizens were at best spilt 50/50 on Assad and it can’t be lost on anyone that Assad was essentially bombing his own people. You’d be looking at regime change, installing a US puppet who would likely not have an ounce of respect even from the more secular Damascus population. In this case we have solid leadership to support that has unified support from its civilians. We have reason to act this time to support Ukraine in this one and while we should have given more outrage to the atrocities in Syria it’s still not clear to me what else Obama could have done that wouldn’t have led to a quagmire. Love or hate Obama, I always felt he was very severe when he talked about how Syria was the toughest decision and the one that kept him up at night. Maybe he could have rallied the world to bring on the mother of all sanctions on Putin and Assad like Biden is doing now, but my guess is he didn’t have that support then with our Allie’s or the support from the US to take a hit at the pump. Which is mostly due to coverage by the media not shaping the politics of the situation with the truth of the horror happening. IMO Syria is like chapter 3 in Putin’s anthology series of evil. We should look at Syria and Ukraine in a series of events and not completely separate events. But direct involvement then vs now is a different calculation imo. However outrage and media coverage shouldn’t be so drastically different but sadly it is because of the obvious.
I understand your point when it comes to humanity and pure evil against others. Sure, millions more suffer in many other countries. Their governments are not ruled like ours. What we fear, is those type rulers inflicting their same mindset and governments onto countries trying to free themselves of that type leadership. We don't need the whole world being reigned and taken over by evil men like Putin. That is how this is different. First Ukraine, then what? Poland, Romania? Sweden? Finland?
I'm not sure the question is military intervention in Syria, note the US did have US ground troops in Syria working with the Kurds, but the treatment of refugees. Poland was one of the most anti-immigrant countries in Europe and much of Europe wasn't welcoming to Syrian refugees but they are welcoming Ukrainians.
“The military operation is, no question, tougher going than had been expected,” said Sergei Markov, a pro-Kremlin commentator who appears frequently on state television. “It was expected that 30 to 50 percent of the Ukrainian Armed Forces would switch over to Russia’s side. No one is switching over.”
Must have been after Putin's speech about traitors in the country? Putin mentioned relations with the West are over. It's Russia and China against the West. Let's see how China straddles the line between Russia and the West. I'm sure the whole world is eager to see this new Communist world order in action. I guess democracy is just supposed to die and we'll leave the decisions of the world in the hands of a few paranoid dictators? lol
It would certainly destabilize Russia's "situation". Having you jets and missles blown out of the sky will do that........
This just blows up Putins argument that he needs to defend Russia from foreign aggression. If that was actually the case all of those apparent foreign aggressors would be assaulting a very vulnerable Russia right now. He has no way logistically of getting those resources back into Russia for weeks.
I think if it comes down to going down the hole of economic isolation with Russia versus still being a part of the global economy the PRC chooses the West. Most likely the PRC is going to end up like India professing neutrality but willing to do business with either side. That said these days no one knows anything for sure.
