Where have you been during Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq? in fact we blew 6 innocent children up as “retaliation” after bidump’s chaotic withdrawal.
Refusing help to Saudi Arabia ? You mean like their genocide in Yemen which is no different than what Russia is doing to Ukraine? Again…Saudi Arabia?! this has to be ****ing satire nobody is that stupid
There is no such as a clean war and one of the reasons why I've been very very cautious about getting into another one.
It's clear that Putin is not just ok with targeting civilians, but has directed his forces to do this as part of a larger strategy. This is not the first time by the way. Russia has done these practices for decades against their neighbors - it's just shocking because people are finally paying attention to it.
Weird and inappropriate Former WA Rep. Matt Shea, accused of domestic terrorism, working to secure adoptions for Ukrainian children in Poland https://www.seattletimes.com/seattl...e-adoptions-for-ukrainian-children-in-poland/ Former Washington state Rep. Matt Shea, the far-right Republican who was found by a House-commissioned investigation to have planned and participated in domestic terrorism, is in a small town in Poland with more than 60 Ukrainian children, trying to facilitate their adoption in America. Shea has said his group helped rescue 62 children and their two adult caregivers from an orphanage in Mariupol, the city in southeastern Ukraine that has been bombarded by Russian forces. But international agencies say, with the chaos and confusion of war, now is not an appropriate time for international adoptions from Ukraine. And Shea’s presence, and the lack of information surrounding the American group he’s with, has raised concerns among some residents of Kazimierz Dolny, the small Polish town where the children are staying at a hotel-guesthouse. “I asked him many times, ‘What are you going to do with these children?’ and he told me that it’s not my business,'” Weronika Ziarnicka, an aide to the mayor of Kazimierz Dolny, said of Shea. “I got the feeling in my gut that something’s wrong with this guy; he didn’t want to tell me his last name.” Shea, who rarely speaks to mainstream media, did not respond to requests for comment. Speaking on a Polish television show, “Idź Pod Prąd,” Shea said he was working with a Texas group called Loving Families and Homes for Orphans (he also called the group Loving Homes and Families for Orphans). It is a hosting organization that hosts Ukrainian orphans in America with Ukrainian families with the intent that ultimately that ends in adoption,” Shea said on the show. “It’s been doing this hosting program for several years.” Loving Families and Homes for Orphans appears to have a website, but it is nonfunctional. The group, based in Fort Worth, registered with the Texas secretary of state in 2018. No such group is registered as an adoption agency with the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. The group is also not registered with the Intercountry Adoption Accreditation and Maintenance Entity, the group that oversees American agencies involved in international adoption. A nonprofit group called Loving Families and Homes for Orphans was registered in Florida just one month ago. It lists its purpose as: “To provide loving and caring homes and families for the orphans from other countries for a short time period.” The group was registered by Irina N. Sipko of Palm Coast, Florida. Sipko did not return requests for comment. Artur Pomianowski, the mayor of Kazimierz Dolny, said in a post on Facebook that he’d visited the children and they are safe and being well cared-for. He also said the “case is being investigated and clarified by the relevant authorities” and that the kids would not leave Kazimierz Dolny without consent of the authorities. “I do not know what Matt Shea and his friends are doing here around children,” Pomianowski said in an email. “Mr. Shea and his friends have given us some contradictory information and, for that reason, it is difficult for us to trust them.” In a statement posted to Facebook by Dom Dziennikarza, the journalists’ guesthouse where the children are staying, Loving Families and Homes for Orphans says it is a Christian organization based in Texas and that Sipko is the director. “We are in direct contact with the governments of Ukraine and the United States, supported by the highest levels of politicians, international and local church leaders as well as dozens of companies from Ukraine, the USA and Poland,” the statement says. The U.S. State Department did not directly respond when asked if they’d been in contact with Loving Families, but a spokesperson warned: “Only accredited Adoption Service Providers are authorized to facilitate intercountry adoptions of children to the United States.” It can be extremely difficult in wartime to determine whether children who appear to be orphans truly are eligible for adoption, the State Department said. “It is not uncommon in dangerous situations for parents to send their children out of the area, for safety reasons, or for families to become separated during an emergency,” the State Department spokesperson said. “Even when a child’s parents have died, children are often cared for by other relatives. Also, many children living in orphanages in Ukraine are not orphans.” The National Council for Adoption said this is not the time for U.S. citizens to be considering adoption from Ukraine, as many families fleeing the war become separated. “It is paramount that the identities of these children and their families be clearly established, and their social, legal, and familial status is fully verified by governmental authorities,” the council said. “For most of these children, we cannot do that at this time.” The United Nations High Commission on Refugees and UNICEF put out a joint statement calling for temporary and foster care for children but saying “Adoption should not occur during or immediately after emergencies.”
There hasn't been a refugee evacuation of this scale in Europe since WWII, so of course people are paying more attention to it.
That's shady sounding. Nobody should be releasing orphans to that guy without a thorough check on the legitimacy. If only Republicans and their families in Texas and the US would welcome people from Central America and Mexico at the border just wanting to escape violence and extreme poverty with such welcome arms.
That's not why people are paying attention to it. 13 million syrians were displaced and continue to be displaced, and it was the largest refugee evacuation of scale to Europe since WWII as well at the time. Yet the main story wasn't about the travesty of the Syrian people and how they were being massacred, it was about how no one wanted them in their country. It wasn't a Syrian crisis and war against evil Assad & Russia - it was a refugee crisis as "what the F are we going to do with all of them" - many countries did not let them in even after the images of 3 year old face down on a beach went viral. So yeah, the reason you are giving is B.S. and you should know it by now.
It's part of it. This is like the start of WWIII. This is the invasion and destruction of homes, hospitals, and cities across an entire country in Europe. Nobody has seen people flee their country from war on this scale in decades. It's genocide by Putin, to take over another country and spread Nazi propaganda fear blatant lies as part of his excuse.
This simply isn't true. 13 million Syrians were displaced, so far a bit more than 1 million Ukrainians have been displaced. In Syria - entire cities were leveled partly by Russian forces.
Syrians had it bad - but are they in NATO? We had no obligation there, in fact Syria is a Russia puppet regime....the USA and Israel hated it.... And yes, the people suffered, and they tried to overthrow their horrible government and failed. Ukraine is different - and similar - both involved Russia only the Ukraine government is hostile where the Syrian one was friendly. DD
Syria was a civil war - essentially an internal uprising against Assad that other countries got involved with. We've had lots of those over the last several decades - in Africa, in particular. What we haven't had is a major superpower - a UN Permanent Security Council member, no less - unprovoked invade another country in what could lead to a World War. We've also not seen a democratic country invaded in generations. That's what makes this situation unique and something that has drawn the world's attention. Edit: If China was doing this to Taiwan, it would be just as big a story. And it would involve no white people.
I don't think this is an effective way of trying to convince her of your perspective. I don't want to derail this thread. I've made my points before. I think race plays a significant factor in terms of the suffering people are experiencing and people's attention to it. I don't understand why it matters that it is Europe, or an invasion vs a civil war - a child being killed is the same in any case. Why one deserves more attention because it is Europe or Putin, or nearer to us makes zero sense to me. So that's all I have to say and will end it at that @DaDakota @deb4rockets
Conservative estimate from the Pentagon: 7000 Russian troops death. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/16/us/politics/russia-troop-deaths.html … It is a staggering number amassed in just three weeks of fighting, U.S. officials say, with implications for the combat effectiveness of Russian units, including soldiers in tank formations. Pentagon officials say a 10% casualty rate, including dead and wounded, for a single unit renders it unable to carry out combat-related tasks. With more than 150,000 Russian troops involved in the war in Ukraine, Russian casualties, when including the estimated 14,000 to 21,000 injured, are near that level. And the Russian military has lost at least three generals in the fight, according to Ukrainian, NATO and Russian officials. Pentagon officials say that a high, and rising, number of war dead can destroy the will to continue fighting. The result, they say, has shown up in intelligence reports that senior officials in the Biden administration read every day: One recent report focused on low morale among Russian troops and described soldiers just parking their vehicles and walking off into the woods.
