I know nothing about Baltimore. Is that city a good place to live? I wonder if he doesn't want to live there for 10 years so he's using that offer and trying to get Houston to come close to it. Or at least get a good offer that also has an out clause. If he plays well, he opts out but if he doesn't/gets hurt, he still has the security of a big deal.

On a unrelated note, the longer this goes the more annoying it gets. What if the Astros have interest in other players but waiting for Correa. Other players won't wait. Prior to the lockout, they checked on Bryant. He's now off the board. Apparently they're interested in Soler but so are other teams and apparently talks are heating up with 2 teams. If Correa leaves, I'm hoping Astros doesn't end up with nothing.

Well he certainty wouldn't live IN Baltimore I don't think, but there's some pretty decent places outside that dump of a city worth living in.

The question is if he wants to flush the rest of his career down the tubes in order to maximize his earning potential.

I personally think he's the type that would. We'll see

Correa would be a fool to take >10% less to sign with a contender over a rebuilding team. We are talking about a difference of 30M dollars. If the Astros are offering something like $200M/8yrs and the Orioles $300M/10yrs, he better take that extra $100M.

The waiting for Beltran scenario. We waited on Beltran until everyone was off the market and then he flew the coup.

    I don't think he's going anywhere.

Tax rate between MD and TX would make up some of that but certainly not $100m.

But going to that team who is years away from competing seems like a disaster waiting to happen. They've lost 108+ in the last 3 full seasons. I'm not familiar with their farm and if this is a planned rebuild, but they are no where near close...especially in a division with Toronto, NYY, Boston and Tampa. They could go .500 and still finish 15-20 games out of 4th in the division.

I think the term is the hold-up for the Astros. He's more likely to get 6 years $210 or an exchange of opt outs. Player at 1 year and Team at 7 years. It offers both parties protection.

Perhaps 1 year $35M for highest AAV for a shortstop. 2022

    9 Year $265M 2023-2031 with a team buyout option in 2028. $35M/Yr 2023-2027, $25M/Yr 2028-2031.

They are a team on the rise. One of the best farms in baseball with 2 of the top 10 prospects in the league. Problem is they are in by far the toughest division in the league and will never be able to spend enough to get ahead of the Yankees or Red Sox, while they likely aren’t as well run as the Rays and Blue Jays. If Correa signs with the Orioles he is very likely never going to appear in another World Series.

Feels like he'll force himself out after a couple of seasons once he realizes they won't win in that division anytime soon. Feels like a Rangers/ARod situation.

Told the Astros are oddly confident and told to “Just wait and relax.”

But how is that a disaster for him? He gets paid and gets to go somewhere he wants more. Worked out pretty well for A-Rod.

Could be a disaster for Orioles, but they have they money and maybe can get some veteran leadership for a few years. A-Rod at $25MM a year 20 years ago was a much bigger contract than $30MM/yr would be today, so assuming he's moderately good, he should be tradable.

Orioles GM is Mike Elias who played a big role in the drafting of Carlos Correa for the Astros. Their franchise is in good hands. It’s a tough division but I wouldn’t count them out of being able to compete in the future.

$100 million difference? You take the larger payday. $50 million? Personally it depends on how badly he wants to be an Astro and stay in Houston. I know a lot of people would say take every penny and at 25 I would agree… now as a 40 year old man, I realize that the utility of 250 million versus 300 million is negligible compared to quality of life.

The long term convention has been take the money but generationally I thing we are seeing some changes.

5.75% State and about 3.3% Local. $300M Maryland = $275M Texas. By the way, HE brought up that point last year.

If it's down to Houston vs Baltimore, then we've got Correa in the bag.

There's no way Correa's wife is willing to live in Baltimore. It may be the worst city in MLB. Worse than Detroit. They'd be miserable.

If he signs for money, and only money, I guarantee it will be a mistake.

The biggest mistake young men make is in making decisions in isolation and forgetting about the long term legacy you’re building. For whatever reason, we typically don’t learn this lesson until our mid-30s.

Hope the best for Carlos. If I were him, I’d probably go to the contender offering the most money.
