Disney+ has announced a June 8th premiere date for its Marvel Studios TV series based on the comics title “Ms. Marvel”.

In addition, the first trailer for the six-episode series has been released. The series will center on Pakistani-American teenager Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) who is a big fan Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers and struggles to fit in until she gains her own powers.

Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Matt Lintz, Zenobia Shroff and Mohan Kapur co-star in the series which hails from creator Bisha K. Ali. The series will mark the second Marvel Studios series of 2022 following the arrival of “Moon Knight” later this month.

    Great music.

I'm a little concerned that this might be Disney teeny-bopper cheese drama show impinging on the MCU brand.

At what point is Marvel at risk of over-Marvelling iteself?

When the genres are so drawn the original genre doesn't attract anymore?

I don't mind shows for kids or teens, but when it's canon, **** that.

News flash - comic books have a big audience with children and teens. Film at 11.

It probably will be a show for teens, and there is nothing wrong with that. Most of Marvel/Disney's TV success has been exploring different formats and niches for shows instead of repeating the same by-the-numbers good guy fights bad guys default format.

Can't say I really understand this character. Her power set is very similar to Reed Richards. It will be odd to have two unrelated characters with the same elastic skills.

The Muslim thing just seems like box checking because she doesn't really fit in with the vast majority of the Muslim world. She's extremely Westernized from how it looks. This character seems to be too tied into Captain Marvel Carol Danvers also.

I know this is more for younger ages, but the character seems pretty uninspiring with the development.

Another woke turd for the MCU.

Should've named it "Bend it Like Marvel"

She's been around in the comics since 2013.

I think a primer is a good idea. I have no skin in the game on her comic, never interested me to read.

My guess is Marvel had muslims in the western world in mind. Most of the muslims I've met in my life are just as western as she appears to be - so it seems normal to me.

I'm not as interested in this show mainly because of the teenie bopper vibe. But, I really think the MCU is gonna run into a problem if they try to push for some of these smaller less popular characters to have larger roles. I'm hoping they find a good way to weave in X-Men and fantastic 4.

Yeah I didn't follow Agents of Shield, so this...

Like I get marvel shows are D+ tentpole, it's the loss leader like a fast food chains value menu. It's why they put down 100million budgets for shows like falcon or wandavision.

But this...is like serving veggies with the lure that it might end up affecting the movies.

    Oh well, time will tell.

Someone pointed out Dust as another Muslim female character https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Sooraya_Qadir_(Earth-616)?so=search

She seems so much more interesting than Ms Marvel. Don't know why they didn't develop that character if they wanted a Muslim female.

Looks like a show for kids which is fine.

It appears that they changed her power to a Green Lantern bracer to avoid the Reed Richards comparison and to make us forget about Inhumans. Stretching/growing powers would probably look pretty terrible on a TV show budget.

Dust is a mutant so they could introduce her with the X-Men in the future, unless there’s a 1 Muslim character limit for a fictional universe. Ms. Marvel is a much more known character so it makes sense that they’d go with her.

There’s a way to do this right without turning into a Disney teen show- look at some of the successful Manga or Anime with teens with powers. I give no ***** about her religion.
