Doubt Falcons would be doing this if deal was done with NO... https://twitter.com/MarinoNFL/status/1503909211847204865?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^tweet
I doubt a deal is done. My opinion is Saints or Falcons will be Watson's choice. Quit crying about the compensation. Nick will get what he can but you can blame O'Brien and Easterby for that no trade clause.
Bryce Harper to the Phillies, Hayward to Celtics, Golladay to Giants, etc. It’s not a troll account, I believe they have real sources. I can’t recall them being wrong but we will see. If he’s correct I’d think the Falcons meeting would be waived off
Also, Aaron Wilson said that the Falcons wanted to meet with Deshaun- but that a meeting hadn’t been confirmed to him, nor had he heard of a trade proposal being approved by the Texans- which is key to being able to meet with Watson
This is best case for the Texans. Absolutely. It enables you to get the QB you want next year if Mills doesn't plan out. At the expense of the Colts, potentially.
I just don't see what New Orleans could offer that would rival with the Panthers could offer. They better throw in two extra second round picks to make up for draft position in the first round this year. And in the coming years. Can we still get Ryan Ramczyk? I guess him, Marshon Lattimore, and a good young corner, with three firsts and two seconds would work.
Agreed. Posted earlier that they’d have to get a 3rd team involved willing to part with a higher pick. Not getting a top 10 pick in return would be a disaster IMO. Ramczyck/Lattimore’s are good players but come with hefty contracts. Taking them in lieu of younger cheaper talent doesn’t make a lot of sense for this current team.
While I appreciate the enthusiasm the reality is that yes Watson does hold the leverage. It was the team that chose not to move him last year due to his impending legal issues and his stock was at the lowest possible bargaining point. Now that the brunt of those have been resolved you have a fair amount of teams who are all probably offering great packages and its in the best interest of both parties to move forward while his value is the highest. I'd hate to deal with the lowest draft picks, but that may be what ends up happening. Watson doesnt need to acquiesce to the teams best interests while holding the NTC. Team isnt going to carry that money on the books just to be stubborn with all of the offers already made public that would be foolish and a PR nightmare. Players association would be up their collective asses.
Other than just wanting to move on and put this behind them, the Texans don't really have any incentive to "play nice". If Deshaun wants to go to New Orleans, but Nick decides their compensation isn't enough, he doesn't have to trade him there. Them keeping Deshaun would be terrible for the Texans, but it would be much worse for Deshaun. Sitting out for ANOTHER year during your "prime" would not be ideal. And you can best believe that if that did happen, Deshaun would NOT be getting 35mil to stay home. I think 2021 was the Texans "playing nice" and trying not to mess up draft position. The Players Association doesn't have anything to say. It was DESHAUN that leaked he'd never play another game here. Wherever he decides to go, it will be an acceptable solution by the Texans. Hence why Nick made every team present compensation BEFORE a meeting even took place.
Absolutely correct. He should be traded to whichever team offers the best package. NO’s has by far the worst, given how good they are going to be with Watson. Carolina’s package if accurate is by far the best and Caserio should not acquiesce to any demand by Watson.
It wouldnt happen. the NFL would step in and resolve the matter. They wont allow one of the best QBs in the league to sit because a team is unhappy about compensation after said player was cleared of criminal charges. Fans perspective on the the actual leverage superstar players have isnt always realistic. The list is long of players who have done the same exact thing as Watson and gotten their wishes fulfilled. Whether you, me or any other fans feel differently is besides the point. Carrying 35Ms for a DNP is just not smart any way you look at it. You can put together a package of players and picks even from New Orleans that would be deemed sufficient.
This is the exact scenario I was thinking about last night. Ryan or Baker mean a 3rd party has to be involved from the outset. We're not taking on a QB without knowing we had a second trade in hand.
This thing will get wrapped up by the end of the week. Probably gonna be part of the Friday news dump.
The NFL cannot step in. Caserio says take the Carolina package or you are our starting QB. If Watson refuses he sits without money. He won’t do that.
