I will admit it: I have worked in biolabs in several US locations. My wife works in a biolab fulltime also. Maybe Cucker will interview me for teh truths?
I have it on good information that our nation's schoolchildren are routinely consigned to dangerous biolabs.
That should have been the response all along. Why did people spend days denying there were biolabs? They should have said, "Of course, like every other nation that engages in medical research, Ukraine has biological laboratories. They even have received US funding to do medical research. Why would that be an issue?" If Tucker or whatever boogeyman had said, "Ukraine has airfields," would they have said, no Ukraine has no airfields, this is Russian propoganda? No, you would point out that of course Ukraine has airfields, and why would that be an issue worth discussing?
Did Tucker Carlson make any claims beyond "there are biolabs"? I'm assuming he didn't just say "Ukraine has biolabs". I'm assuming they are denying that part after.
I'm interested in the fallout for this (if any). Maybe the old folks don't gaf anymore and load up on more opioids while Tucker drones along.
No idea, I don't watch him, just what was posted here. All else I have seen are the tweets from people saying Ukraine doesn't have biolabs and why is Carlson saying they do, he is parroting Russian propaganda.
Are you sure that's what's happening? Or is Carlson attaching more claims beyond "Ukraine has biolabs" that helps justification for invasion from Russia?
As I said, the only information I have seen is the short video posted here and the responses. I have seen several responses that specifically took issue with the claim that Ukraine has biolabs and countered that Ukraine did not have biolabs (and some that said Ukraine did not have US funded biolabs). I don't even like the term biolabs, because it is intentionally being used to obfuscate. Just call them biological/medical research laboratories. Whatever claims Carlson was making, if the response was, "Of course Ukraine has biological/medical research laboratories, just like everyone else that tries to develop medicine." it would all be a non-story (and they would still get to make Carlson look foolish). All the stuff about this is sourced from QAnon/White Supremacists etc. just seems ridiculous, because they do have biological/medical research laboratories, but so what?
I was curious of the claim myself. I wonder why he'd make it without an oily golden hand up his sphincter. Tl;tr freedom is relative. Ukraine WAS/STILL IS freer than Russia. https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...says-ukraine-is-not-democracy-here-are-facts/ Ukraine is not a democracy. Here are the facts Ukraine, to be technical, is not a democracy,” Carlson said. “Democracies don’t arrest political opponents, and they don’t shut down opposition media, both of which Ukraine has done. And by the way, Ukraine is a pure client state of the United States State Department — again, that’s fine. We are not mad about that, go ahead and run Ukraine if you want, if you think you can do a better job than Ukrainians. Just don’t tell us it’s a democracy.” To some extent, whether Ukraine is a democracy is a matter of opinion, so we will not offer a Pinocchio rating. But Carlson — who has expressed admiration for Hungarian President Viktor Orbán and his crackdown on civil liberties — is stacking the deck against Ukraine. It is a fledgling democracy, with significant growing pains, largely the result of Russian pressure and interference in its affairs. It is certainly not “a tyranny.” ... Freedom House, a nonpartisan think tank that ranks democracies, has labeled Ukraine “a transitional or hybrid regime” in one recent report and “partly free” in a second report. Hungary, Carlson’s fave, is also listed as a “transitional or hybrid regime” and does not rank much higher than Ukraine. Ukraine’s overall Freedom House score, moreover, is higher than that of Mexico and Indonesia, two countries often labeled democracies. ... The Economist Intelligence Unit, which in its 2021 Democracy Index listed the United States as a “flawed democracy,” also pegged Ukraine as a “hybrid regime.” Other Eastern European countries in that category included Armenia, Georgia and Bosnia. Essentially, Ukraine is in the middle of the pack of former Soviet republics. It ranks much higher on the Democracy Index than Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan or Turkmenistan — all considered authoritarian regimes. But it is much lower than Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania — now members of the European Union that are considered full democracies. “Ukraine has enacted a number of positive reforms since the protest-driven ouster of President Viktor Yanukovych in 2014,” said Freedom House in its 2021 report on worldwide freedoms. “However, corruption remains endemic, and initiatives to combat it are only partially implemented. Attacks against journalists, civil society activists, and members of minority groups are frequent, and police responses are often inadequate.” Story continues below advertisement Ukraine earned a score of 60 out of 100, down from 62 the year before. “Corruption remains a serious problem, and even the little remaining political will to fight it is eroding, despite strong pressure from civil society,” the report said. (According to Transparency International, Ukraine is the third-most-corrupt country in Europe, after Russia and Azerbaijan.) In Freedom House’s 2021 report on Nations in Transit, Ukraine’s score was also reduced because of backsliding on the judiciary in the previous year. “Judicial Framework and Independence rating declined from 2.50 to 2.25 due to court rulings that suspended laws necessary for reforms, discredited progressive public officials, and overturned corruption verdicts; additionally, a constitutional crisis was caused by the judges of the constitutional Court, who abolished asset declarations of public officials while acting with conflicts of interest,” the report said. “As a result, Ukraine’s Democracy Score declined from 3.39 to 3.36” out of a possible score of 7. Story continues below advertisement “Media in Ukraine remained pluralistic and free from state pressure in 2020. Media outlets are, however, significantly influenced by the financial support and political agendas of their owners,” the report added. “There are positive tendencies in Ukraine’s fight against grand corruption, but also increasing resistance from the judicial branch.” The State Department human rights reportespecially faulted unlawful or arbitrary killing by internal security forces. “The government generally failed to take adequate steps to prosecute or punish most officials who committed abuses, resulting in a climate of impunity,” the report said. “Human rights groups and the United Nations noted significant deficiencies in investigations into alleged human rights abuses committed by government security forces.” The report noted the problem of extrajudicial killings was even worse “in the Russia-instigated and -fueled conflict in the Donbas region” and in Russia-occupied Crimea.
It doesnt just seem ridiculous. It is ridiculous. But, it's the reality of how rightists formulate political policy and messaging these days. ****ing crazy people:
The connotation wasn’t that there were bio labs in the Ukraine but that bioweapons were being produced. That is where the issue became blurry. Tucker Carlson knows damn well what he is doing and knows the distinction but reporting on it drives ratings. Under normal circumstances I would roll my eyes but expect it - doing it now, under the circumstances to his own country? I will admit I didn’t expect him to go that low.
I don’t think there will be any in the short term. Long term I hope there is and push for responsibility in reporting or journalistic integrity.
This is insane… this is the leading “news” source and they have “professionals” asking these questions?
Honestly, Tucker is the new Rush Linbaugh, and the world was a better place when Rush died......Tucker, the same can be said of you and your bullshit, the world would be better with you dead. DD
The fact that you have to explain that... smh The conspiracy theories are that the US was developing bioweapon or another coronavirus from "biolabs" throughout Ukraine. No one cared about these conspiracy theories by the extreme right wing / QAnon from weeks ago until Russia and China pushed it. Carlson knows exactly what he is doing. Carlson, Gabbard, Greenwald all pushed it at around the same time. Not sure if they all take QAnon seriously, coordinate among themselves, and/or are influenced by a common source.
