Good news is that we don't need him to sustain those percentages, we just need him to be confident that shot is always there for him to take. With his speed and athleticism combined with his decent outside shot, he will always have that midrange jumper if he wants it.

Yeah, I wasn't too concerned about it considering the low number of attempts. He's attempted 31 midrange shots vs 122 threes during that stretch. Even if he shot the leaguewide average 40% from midrange it would only drop his scoring average by .6 points and he'd still be shooting a good 46% overall. And I'll take hitting shots at an unsustainable clip over missing shots any day.

I feel this post is lacking observation.

    Thanks for posting that.

He's been shooting just under 60% from 2pt land in the last 10 games since the All Star break. Since the beginning of Feb he's at 57.2% 2pt% over 18 games. If he finishes out the 2nd half of the season near those percentages I'd guess it would have to be the highest all time for a perimeter player 20 and under.

I've been looking for players to compare those rookie post ASB shooting percentages to and I can't really find anyone that has ever been that high.

He already was but he hurt his back, not really a mistake in player evaluation

I’m ready for the next top 5 pick. I’ll be supporting that player just as much. Then I can be called a b*tch for being a fan of two players.

Among the rookies, and players shooting 10 or more shots since the beginning of February, only Scottie Barnes is all that close to his 2P%. Scottie's about a half-a-percent behind. For the same criteria, even league-wide, Jalen's 9th in the stat since the beginning of February among all guards. Among all players, regardless of position or experience, he's 29th, slightly behind Christian Wood. Pretty impressive since he's a scoring guard.

But, I don't know if there's going to be some kind of reversion to the mean eventually for him since we've only played about 10 games in February and March so far.

He was. Dude was well on his way to being a go-to post scorer, maybe even an all star level player. His back imploded and that was that. Back injuries are scary. I won’t let anyone say DMo was overhyped - they clearly didn’t witness it

    He sucked.

Only certain players gets put on a pedestal and worshipped
for a PER no greater than 14.4 and career highs of 12 points with 5.9 rebs

    Get called borderline All Star

Mean reversion is statistically not possible for rookie due to confusion regarding their proper version status.

Dude joined in 2017 and wants to talk about a player that peaked in 2014-15. Exactly my point. You don’t know anything lmao he was the 2nd offensive option on a 56 win team as a 24 year old and then his back imploded

He was very skilled, but he had serious defensive limitations (his wing span is shorter than Sengun, despite being taller). He came in to the league at 22, but was not physically ready for the NBA so he struggled to rebound. He was a poor shooter in general from all ranges and was quite appalling from the free throw line (not that he drew a lot of fouls in the first place).

He was very good in the post however, and had very refined footwork and a good hook shot.

It does speak volumes about the quality of the draft that Sengun at 16th pick is an infinitely better prospect than Motiejunas ever was at the 20th pick. The gap between the 2 is practically the difference you would expect between a lottery pick and a late first rounder.

I think you’re probably some dude that found interest in the game of basketball around the year 2017. No shame in it, we all find new interests and hobbies. I just don’t think you actually know or remember the impact he had on a nightly basis for a team that lacked scoring outside of the Beard.
