Nice! I went to most of the PSJ games and a couple/year after that as a kid with my dad and friends...91 was the first year I really went sans-supervision, probably 12 games? I'd let one of our buddies who didn't drink or smoke drive my suburban ('85 beast), load it up, smoke, hit Frenchy's, hit the Hof with a couple of flasks b/t the group. Sat with the students most of the time, they were awesome. I really need to go to the not-new-but-improved Hof. Covid kinda f'd that up for me. Also looking forward to the new arena in Austin, I'm really hoping for some non-conference games between those 2 in the upcoming years.
The Tournament hasn't even started. I will be curious to see where they end up bowing out.... I think they can make the Sweet 16. They would have been the #1 seed and likely the #1 team in America had they not lost 2 of their 4 best players to injury. They were not going to lose a game down the stretch with those guys. They only ended up losing a few without them. Assuming Sasser is back like I am hearing for next season, they are going to be absolutely stacked again.... and their backcourt is going to be elite with Sasser and Shead in the backcourt and Mark and Walker too. They will run a three guard line up with a lot of talent..... Mark has the potential to explode next season. They also have Emanuel Sharp coming in who is a top 75 prospect. They have J'Wan Roberts inside to replace some of what they are losing. He does very well when he plays and is a good defender. Jarace Walker is one of the top players in his high school class and they also are adding top hundred prospect Areaneaux. They have a chance to be as good as anyone next year.
If you look at their schedule at the time of the injuries, and where they were ranked.... they likely do not lose another game. They were 8-2 with a one point loss to Alabama and a two point loss to Wisconsin..... when they lost Sasser. They were ranked #6 in the nation and were 20-2 at one point..... they lost to Memphis twice and SMU once... very unlikely they lose those games.... even if they lose one of those three games, they would be 32-3 and at worst be ranked 3rd in the nation and likely ahead of UA. So yeah I think they would have gotten a #1 seed in this tournament and likely been ranked as the #2 team in the nation with Gonzaga.... that is assuming they lose one of those three games. It is all after the fact really.... my point is just that is shows how good they were going to be if they were not fighting injuries.... it really is a reflection of how good Sampson is.
Next year is the best chance they've had in a long time. They are a stacked roster. Who do you think is likely to be an unexpected transfer or early draft entry if any?
Those were the only 2 OOC games of note they played, iirc. And they played in a weaker conference than, say, Kansas and AZ, who both also played better OOC schedules. They would not have been, end of the season, above Zags or Zona, maybe Kansas but doubtful. And I'm taking nothing away from the Coogs.
They beat Virginia, Butler, Oregon, LSU, OK St...... they lost to Alabama by 2 and Wisconsin by 1. Arizona out of conference played Michigan, Illinois and Tennessee.... they lost to Tennessee. There isn't really much difference in out of schedule strength of schedule between UA and UH for the 2021-2022 season. AZ did have to deal with UCLA within their conference though. I still believe a UH team with a 32-2 record ends up ranked second going into the tournament..... especially going undefeated down the stretch. Kansas played a very tough schedule but they would have 3-4 more loses. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter...... my point is that this team would have been in a position to compete for a NCAA championship, and would have been dominant. There are no guarantees, but they would have had as good a shot as any other team in the country, especially coming off a Final Four with lesser talent.
No, he's not playing at all this year. Sasser can tell folks he wants to play, of course he does. Any competitive player would. It doesn't change the fact that he won't be playing. folks on the outside need to quit trying so hard to be that breaking news guy. There's nothing to see here. He's trying to save face with his little article you posted. It's fake news. Sasser is out for the year. It's that simple Much of this is literally common sense if Chris Baldwin could just think. Sasser has been out since December. Kelvin Sampson is going to literally just throw Sasser into the NCAA tourney, lets just say sweet 16 just out of the blue, let that sink in Chris Baldwin and how much sense that makes.
Not cleared yet. In a video Sasser says he still has to get a few more x-rays done. However, this week is the 10th week in his stated 8-10 week recovery time. That doesn't mean he's in game shape though.. If UH advances past this weekend, it will start to get interesting.
Yahoo sports writers aren't the sharpest tools in the shed. They bragged about how great UAB is and suggested that UH was overrated. We will find out.
