Tonight Silas was on display of what kind of trash coach he is Did not put Bruno to body Valanciunas when he was looking like Wilt vs the weak Wood (again!) And did not sub Sengun and put his head on his place (4 fouls before subbing ffs). Nix was setting open looks for anyone. But playing with bad shooters. He did not play with Green to set up plays for him. Instead forced KPJ who was a turnover machine and did not sub him for Nix. Silas should have the second documentary: "our mistake, not ready to coach anything, anywhere"
Well, Cade's team was trying to win a game tonight. lol. Usually when we're trying to win a game or it's somewhat close, Jalen gets 30+ minutes. If we're down by a ton, he gets the hook. His minutes per game isn't that different from most rookies except for maybe an Evan Mobley or Scottie Barnes, and look at that... they're trying to win games most of the time and are playoff teams. I won't get into the fact that, on a per-minute basis, 13 shots in 27 minutes is more than 20 in 44, since they're practically identical. So if Jalen had been in a close game, he would've probably got more run.
The bigger issue I have is Silas playing Green these reduced minutes seriously hurts his chances for winning ROTM (which he is on track to do). Considering Green's slower start, and how bad this team is, these smaller accolades and victories go a long way in building his confidence. By benching him today despite playing better than the rest of the starting lineup, he's basically saying Green's odds of winning the award are entirely contingent upon whether his teammates play well. If Wood and KPJ decides to chuck 15 step back shots each next game and the Rockets are down 20 before the 4th, it's back to the bench for Green.
But we're one of if not the worst team in the league and that's not going to change anytime soon, so to hold that against the development of a rookie just makes no sense.
Pistons are only in a position to win games because they, and Cunningham in particular, have been building chemistry in garbage time all season long while Green gets to sit on the bench every damn time. And because were getting blown out in about 90% of games, that means sitting on the bench a whole lot.
Silas is the worst NBA Head Coach without doubt. I bet nobody plays happy but g league players for him. Trash player can be treated like franchise players.
I guess, but I don't know what kind of development is he getting with a bunch of dudes who are just as undeveloped or less developed than he is. I mean, what did y'all want? Him to play 35-40 minutes tonight? He played about 3-4 minutes less than usual. In most circles, if you're with the starters and the starters are getting beat like a drum, you go out with the starters and let the bench come in. Besides, it gave chances for future Rocket legends like Nix, Garuba, and Fernando to shine, and dammit, that's what this board wants! Cade and Jalen average almost an identical number of minutes per game on the season. So maybe Cade ONLY played garbage minutes? Honestly, Cade should be a better player than Jalen since that's what he was touted to be coming out of college - a complete player. He should get way more touches than Jalen because he handles the ball more and can make those decisions more. Where did I say "Detroit was winning games"?
I looked at Cade's game log because I was surprised it was that close and I found the reason. He's had atleast 5-6 "injury management" after injuries/ with injury early in games in which he barely played 21 minutes. That's gonna take his total down by some minutes. It's okay tho, we disagree, I don't mind.
I think you have to play him. Rockets get blown out damn near every game .let him work on his game in live game action. What do you have to lose. I would totally get it if you have other players who you want to test out but who is usually getting those minutes? Nwaba?
I think it's good to give some other players runtime given where we are in the season. Green is playing well and has broken through in terms of his development. I know people want him to stat pad a bit so he can look good on the national stage (I mean, I am guilty of that) but really what's best for this team with 14 or 15 games left is to see what other players can offer before getting to the offseason.
You can probably take out any combination of games before the recent games where they've been playing decently, and it would still be about 32 minutes per game. Recently his minutes did go up, though, but deservedly so. Also, don't forget to look at how Detroit's been playing lately, too... where his minutes went up a lot. Detroit has been losing but has either been in or winning games for at least a month or two. They've won something like 6 of their last 11 games, I think, and they haven't been against chump teams. Even the games they've lost, they've been doing "ok". Detroit will be a lottery team, but Cade also has Bey and Grant on that team. I don't think the Rockets have anything to compare. At least not consistently. I don't mind seeing some other guys getting more than 2 minutes a game just to see what they have. Jalen's going to continue getting opportunities with starters. I don't think missing 3-5 minutes of a blowout is going to hinder him too much.
I think the main reason why there is value in Green playing these blowouts is it would be minutes where he would not be sharing with KPJ and Wood. It would be a rare opportunity to see how Green can mesh with the other rookies like Nix, or how he can perform with more ball handling duties. At the end of the day the only one player that is truly core to the team is Green, everyone else is expendable to a degree. They need to mix and match and see what young player on this team has synergy with Green, as opposed to attaching Green to KPJ which in my opinion has been detrimental to his development.
You know the first thing y'all would be griping about is when Jalen goes down with an injury in a game they're down by 20+ in the 4th quarter. Don't even lie. "WHY WAS HE EVEN IN THE GAME?!!?! #FIRESILAS"
