Just had a quick look, also saw Freddy Galvis as well. Forgot about DeJong. Didn't some suggest him for Odorizzi?

Interesting, is Farmer primary a SS? Also listed as C, 3b, and 2b. Perhaps that would also interest the Astros.

Switch hitter, most of the IF depth, if not all of them, are RHH. To me I wouldn't say this shuts the door on a Correa reunion, I think it's leverage and possibly Diaz on the move. Another factor to consider is this costs less than Diaz and he doesn't have injury concerns (I don't think).

Goodrum has a cool name. I’m guessing that’s why they signed him, because he’s pretty uninspiring as a baseball player. I mean you can basically put him anywhere on defense I guess, and he can run a little, but he’s a 30 year old below average utility player at this point in his career.

Goodrum is a switch hitter who can play SS and has a little pop. But overall a very marginal player. Would have rather had Villar if they were going to go cheap on SS insurance.

He does have some pop, but he also strikes out too much. I dunno. It’s a cheap contract, and he offers decent enough utility, so I guess they could do worse. Whatever...

Niko Goodrum on agreeing to a one-year deal with the Astros, pending physical: “One of the big things is winning,” he said on what drew him to Houston. “I've been playing against them for four years and just see the amazing things going on.”

Goodrum said he’ll fly to Houston on Sunday and take a physical on Monday before driving down to West Palm Beach from his home in Atlanta.

Goodrum said he talked to former Tigers teammate Robbie Grossman to get the lay of the land in Houston: “You hear about all the good things they’re doing and how they make players better.”

His hit tool is awful, but he’s got great versatility, and has above average power and speed tools. He made $2.1 in arb last year, so it’s a pretty reasonable deal if you think he can recover to 2018-2019 levels. 1-1.5 WAR level that can play anywhere brings some value off the bench.

Curious what this means for Diaz. By comparison, Diaz made $3 million last year and will probably get a slight bump up from that — and is also probably tradeable. I wonder if some of this is a view on Diaz’s inability to play backup SS, which hurts his value as a utility player. He’s played less than 100 innings there in the last 3 years with the Astros. Guys like Robel Garcia, Jack Mayfield, and Myles Straw (plus Bregman and Correa) all logged as much or more time there than him in that span.

ETA: Also, Twitter says he has minor league options available. It makes a lot of sense to me to help fill out the back of the roster.

Worth a shot. Former MLB Top 20 prospect who is still only 27.

Goodrum always seemed like one of those players who was due for a breakout… but just never did completely breakout. I think he did have a 2 homer game off JV a couple years back though lol

Someone will have to be cut from the 40 man or put on the 60 day IL to make room for Goodrum.

Meyers, Whitley, Solis, and Ivey could be candidates to land on the 60 day IL.

Goodrum hits lefties extremely well and has some versatility, still it's a weird use of resources.

I forsee Dusty giving him a ton of AB's against righties.

If we lose Correa and Grienke I would like something to take some of the sting away.
    Niko Goodrum isn't it lol
