Dude I'm talking about trading him next year...closer to the deadline. We need to give our youngsters space and time to grow, but if the right opportunity should present itself.
Your talking about nothing Your thread title says we shouldn't trade him until he's expiring, I gave you a heads up he's not tradeable until he's expiring no matter what, and now you're saying what you really meant was we shouldn't trade him until the deadline in Feb 2023? Classic moving of goalposts to try to avoid being corrected on something, but why do that? Who cares? He'll get traded when he's traded, or waived or bought out, or just expire. Stone made the decision to hold until him until he's expiring already.
they apparently had first round offers for him but for this year. A late first round pick this year is not needed. They have 3 young kids already plus two first rounders this year. The goal was a future first rounder and that’s still doable and makes sense. Plus I think they could attach EG this offseason to a future first rounder and get a better first rounder maybe even in this draft. Maybe EG+ the Nets pick gets them moved up to 12ish in this draft. I’d much rather have that if they have someone targeted at 12 range they can’t get at the Nets 16-19 range than another first round pick that’s 25+ if I’m complaining that no one got moved it’s Wood. as for Wall… they’ll get what they can get.
Very few scenarios work and IDK what star we'd want will come available. Zion..Fat, risky, does not really fit with AL P. Jaylen Brown. ...Celtics now looking great, not likely. Not anyone else out there that is feasible. Need to trade Wood/Wall for Westbrook and pick swaps in 27 and 28.
should have never tanked... lost more assets in the process than could be ever recouped by drafting top picks....
I’ll take anything from the Lakers but otherwise I highly doubt we trade John Wall. In all honesty this is a price Tillman is paying for forcing the team to acquire superstars at all cost. The only stars you can realistically acquire, are old ones and we see how the Lakers are doing with that endeavor.
The odds of trading Wall next year are slim. It's actually more difficult to match money next year than it was this year. The best opportunity of executing a trade for that contract is in the offseason when rosters are expanded to 20 allowing for teams to use matching contracts and roster spots not available during the regular season. That last year is worth $47,366,760 and the minimum matching is $37,793,408 which is an increase of $2,344,736 over this year's matching figure. Bare minimum $37,793,408 in incoming salary next league year. Remember IF combining multiple contracts, the Rockets would need a roster spot for each player to land in - even if they were going to immediately release that player. This is what made moving EG at the deadline so difficult - it limited the teams able to make the trade. That's why this is easier in the offseason when rosters expand to 20. Still, what team has $37,793,408 in salary laying around they would trade for John Wall? There are only 18 contracts in the league that are large enough to match alone. Just looking at the numbers - I don't see a deal happening as it's almost certain to bring back a contract(s) the Rockets wouldn't want on their books beyond the 2022/23 season. The Rockets currently have a grand total of $0 (yes Zero) dollars on their books beyond the end of next season. All contracts that extend beyond the end of next year are club options. Yuck. Why? Which young star wants to come play on the worst team in the league, and has matching salary of $45mill, AND has multiple years left to run on their deal? If they want to play here and we could chase them in FA, great! But why give up assets to move on from a gross contract that is FINALLY expiring? I would rather the cap space. Perhaps attach an asset to EGO to flip him for a legit starter at a forward position (or a PG?). But we wait and see what happens in the draft and off season first
I know chess players say checker players are dumb, but I love checkers. Plus, the red ones are tasty.
Man. The magnitude of those numbers boggle the mind no matter how many times you see them. And yes, I'm proud of all of this talk I've been seeing on Clutchfans about letting him expire. With cap space we can retain talent, get mentors, sign breakout candidates, or even trade for more bad salary with assets attached. No more kicking the can, Tilman.
John Wall will be bought out. Half will be blasting Stone for not moving him. Half will be wondering why it wasn’t done sooner.
