Not anywhere close to what we are doing now. Erdogan didn't support or participate in the sanction in 2014. He doesn't support and is not participating in the sanction in 2022. He has tried to maintain support for both Russia and Ukraine. The statement he made about the West response is kind of weird. He doesn't want military action against Russia and he doesn't support sanctions. Not sure what he meant.
I not an expert, but I thought all artillery had recoil. Hand held rocket launcher doesn't have recoil because it's open in the back.
MLRS is artillery and operates on the same principal as hand held rocket launcher, just a bunch of scaled up barrels mounted on a tractor or truck. Also if you want to get technical there is a thing called a recoilless rifle which is mostly without recoil that definitely qualifies as field artillery. I've seen recent pictures of them mounted on Toyota Hiluxes in Syria.
This is where you are wrong, it is 100% in our strategic interest to take Putin down while he is weak. DD
I'm not trying to argue. The dude was super close and got wrecked. The tweet was making it sound like they were using drones to remotely see where rounds were landing. The drone doesn't really seem useful in that fight at all.
Just like they are in Yemen and every other country and war we don't get involved in. As hard as it is to accept, this is how the world works. And you should know that getting involved isn't going to save those people but will result in more people getting killed, not less.
I suspect if the world got involved in WW2 when Germany invaded Poland, a lot fewer people would have died. I also suspect lots fewer people died when the US got involved in many other conflicts like Serbia-Bosnia. This whole war-is-always-bad simplification is silly.
I don't disagree with you. But I also don't agree that getting involved in Ukraine will save more lives that it will cost. At the end of the day, it is your opinion that it will, and it is mine that it will not.
One of the problems that I have with this whole situation is personally don't have a good sense of exactly how the war is going and how strong Ukrainian forces are and / or how weak Russian forces are. We are bombarded with reports that Russia is very weak, taking massive losses, bogging down and Ukrainians are mounting effective defenses. Then simultaneously reports and maps showing Russian advances and calls that Ukrainian will be destroyed unless we put in a no-flyzone and start giving them offensive aid. There are contradictory reports of how many Russian forces are in Ukraine, some are saying almost all of the forces that were along the borders two weeks ago are now in Ukraine. There are other reports saying that there is still significant forces that haven't crossed the border and are being held in reserve. Also even as Ukraine is asking for the MiGs from Poland there is no clear reports on how much air power Ukraine has or that Russia has committed. When I see numbers it's only how many Russian aircraft the Ukrainians have taken out. Obviously the fog of war is a real thing but given the stakes of this war it makes it even harder to know for certain what is going on. I also get and agree that the Ukrainians are the victims here and we are very sympathetic to them. I also agree they are mastering social media and basically information warfare much better than the Russians. The problem with that though is that if we are to enter this war we should know more. I will even go further and say it's a disservice of our news media to only be reporting on Russian losses except when it comes to to talking about civilian deaths of Ukrainians. There was a lot of that type of reporting in the leadup to the first Gulf War and to the invasion of Iraq. Given the stakes of us potentially entering the war and that what we do might be driven a lot by public opinion I think it's very important we have a clearer understanding of what is going on.
