Don't expect the Astros to officially sign anyone until spring training starts. When spring training starts they can move guys to the 60 day IL and open up a 40 man roster spot. Solis and Ivey would fit that bill. Whitley is also a possibility but that move would start his service clock.
Look at the total value. That's all that matters. The 13 years is just to extend the deal out so that your AAV is like 27 million a year and click can afford to sign another spare arm every year for $9,000,000
With McCullers uncertainty, do you hang onto Odorizzi? Or trade him and plug Javier into the rotation?
$44M/2yrs seems like a great deal for the Giants. Hard to believe he couldn’t secure a better deal than that.
Those are some awfully big if's. Why should any team be willing to accept all the risk of what is an inevitable outcome?
I think he’s comparable to Verlander - high risk but high ceiling. I think I like the Giants’ deal a little better than ours though.
I believe he has some type of option after the 1st year. 22 million “prove it” type deal. But I agree… he probably could have held tight and got more of a long term deal from a SP needy team who wanted to gamble on his shoulder issues/upside
If he gets hurt again he still gets 44 million. If he has a big season he will only be 30 next offseason and can get the 100 million plus deal. He also picked a very pitcher friendly park to pitch in......
After Odorizzi calling out Dusty last year in the press, and then Dusty barely playing him in the playoffs despite the Stros being paper thin with pitching . . . well, I don't think he'll be around long. I'd like the Stros to keep him, just don't know if he wants to be here seeing that Dusty is back.
