Yes we've seen a lot of reporting about civilian deaths and atrocities committed by Russian forces. I don't deny those are happening but what we're not seeing is a lot of reporting of Ukrainian military forces dying.
Of course. As I’ve said before, it’s all culture war all the time with these alt right idiots. The message is Zelenskyy is woke and Putin is a good Christian.
There were reasons why Ukraine is not in NATO. Reasons why some in NATO didn't want to tie their boat to Ukraine. I'm glad Ukraine wasn't part of NATO. Not because I don't want Ukraine to have protection, but because I don't want us to go to war for a country that was relatively poor, wasn't able to defend Crimea or its eastern border very well, and had Russian pro insurgents living in regions in large numbers.
Russia is now saying we’re planning on arming Ukraine with alien weapons found from an alien crash in Roswell, New Mexico.
As much as I don't trust anything from Russia, I also and very skeptical of some of the claims the Ukrainians are making.
Here is a little History lesson for those that are trying to mask their indifference by blaming the Ukraine...... At the entrance to the memorial park in Kyiv, there is a sculpture of an extremely thin girl with a very sad look holding a handful of wheat ears in her hands. Behind her back is the Candle of Remembrance, a monument with details reminiscent of authentic embroidery that can be found on traditional Ukrainian costumes. This is a monument that commemorates a historical event known as the Holodomor. What is the Holodomor? After the end of the First World War, Ukraine was an independent state, but in 1919 the Soviet Union "sucked" it into the community of Soviet states. The Ukrainians, who even then considered themselves a Central European people like the Poles and not an Eastern European like the Russians, tried to restore Ukraine's independence. In 1932, not wanting to lose control of Europe's main granary, Stalin resorted to one of the most heinous forms of terror against one nation. In the process of nationalization, he took away the grain-producing land from the Ukrainian peasants, but also all its offerings, thus creating an artificial famine. The goal was to "teach Ukrainians to be smart" so that they would no longer oppose official Moscow. Thus the people who produced the most grain in Europe were left without a crumb of bread. The peak of the Holodomor was in the spring of 1933. In Ukraine at that time, 17 people died of hunger every minute, more than 1,000 every hour, and almost 24,500 every day! People were literally starving to death in the streets. Stalin settled the Russian population in the emptied Ukrainian villages. During the next census, there was a large shortage of population. Therefore, the Soviet government annulled the census, destroyed the census documents, and the enumerators were shot or sent to the gulag, in order to completely hide the truth. World War. Their poison gas was hunger. Their Hitler was Stalin. Their Holocaust was the Holodomor. For them, fascist Berlin was Soviet Moscow, and their concentration camp was the Soviet Union. Today, 28 countries around the world present the Holodomor as genocide against Ukrainians, which you could not learn about in school, because almost all evidence was destroyed and victims were covered up for decades, survivors were forcibly silenced by not having the right to vote until recently. The Holodomor at that time broke the Ukrainian resistance, but it made the desire for Ukraine's independence from Russia eternal. Ukraine has NOT nor ever really WAS a part of Russia.....it was STOLEN. DD
I understand why they weren't accepted. I didn't find fault with them not being accepted until now when some people use that acceptance to limit the amount of help they are willing to give. Even without their ability to defend the Crimea, and all of the other, they are putting up incredible resistance at this point. So it's safe to say their ability to defend themselves was underestimated. But I don't find fault with that given the data at which we were able to look.
OH really? Huh...... with no context or understanding of how that was taken away from them. Look you are bending over backwards saying...no to war, we get it.....but those people in that country do not deserve what is happening to them - until we start to treat everyone equally our hypocrisy will never die. “Here’s the deal. Russia is a Christian nationalist nation. They’re actually Russian Orthodox. ... I identify more with Putin’s Christian values than I do with Joe Biden.” -Lauren Witzke, a GOP candidate for the Senate in Delaware
The issue with Ukraine is timing. Their turn towards Democracy has been actually very short. Prior, it was one of the more corrupt countries in the world, and Putin sort of had his way installing his own puppets. However it's obvious to me that the LARGE majority of Ukranians have been wanting that change for much much longer than their government has represented them to be. I know Ukranians personally and I can tell that they aren't newfound lovers of freedom. People there have been wanting a real legit government run by the people for a long time. So the issue with Ukraine, and whether to include them or not, has been the government... not the people. You also have a completely different country west of Kyiv than East. The East is like Alabama, and the West is like Washington state in terms of their views. So NATO and the EU have probably thought that it's a risk to make an investment in bringing Ukraine into Europe and the West until they knew for sure that the population had a clear majority, and that it wasn't just 50/50. But since 2014, it's clear that the pro-West part of Ukraine has seeped into the mainstream, and now that they have a stable democratically elected government, they should have been ON THE PATH since 2019. So the issue is timing. Putin knows it's inevitable that they are a great candidate now to be part of NATO & the EU, and so it's now or never to attack before that happens. And no... Ukraine isn't really a poor country. It's a poor country in relation to Denmark, Sweden, etc. but it is emerging as it starts to clean up corruption more and more, and it's industries start to gain more legitimacy. I'm certainly not glad that Ukraine wasn't a part of NATO because I do think it would be a good decision to bring them in. They just needed more time to prove their stability as a democracy and independence from the Putin mob family tree which Putin was sure to NOT give them, and here we are.
Not saying it's their fault at all. And if you want to talk about hypocrisy - we already did that. You want to treat people equally? Let me hear you scream and cry about Yemen, then you have something to stand on - until then you're the one who's being hypocritical here.
Ukraine wouldn't be able to meet the conditions of being admitted into NATO - one being you can't already be at a state of war with another country! You have to have control of all your territory as well. So even if Ukraine did apply it would have been rejected for that reason. @FranchiseBlade
Something to do with gay and lesbian. The Russian Orthodox church went out and made comments in support of the invasion and killing of innocent. Pretty disgusting. To be clear, other Orthodox churches throughout the world have not made such a statement (some have denounced the invasion).
