I wonder if the NBA cannot defend the midrange anymore because most of the NBA doesn't score from there so they don't practice defending it.
I don’t think it’s a matter of can or can’t. I think a lot of NBA defenses are geared to entice players into taking mid range shots. There’s so few players who can actually make you pay with that shot consistently. And I would guess that even when facing a team with an elite mid range player the math still probably favors giving guys better mid range looks rather than better looks from 3 and paint shots.
Could be. On offense the mid range is a hard shot to consistently be efficient at but on defense it's hard to defend because there are so many variables at play if you're defending a player that's efficient at the mid range. With Chris Paul, he can either pull up for a midrange or call for a pick to get open. With Durant, he uses his height just to simply shoot over pretty much everyone. With DeRozan, he physically puts the defender in a bind because he can put the ball on the floor and dribble drive or play the vintage MJ/Kobe game where he backs the defender down within that space and shoots the fadeaway.
I’d love to see them chanting “Thank u Ky-riee!” too I haven’t looked forward to a regular season game like this in quite some time…hopefully it lives up to its billing
Embiid is going to hang a 40 piece on Brooklyn (Drummond will be in foul trouble 2 minutes into the game). Maxey is going to drop 25-30 tonight as no one on the Nets can defend him. Harden will have probably 16-20 points but will also have at least 12 assists. Durant will be Durant but Thybulle will contain Kyrie. Blowout win for Sixers.
I wouldn’t put it past Rich Paul to pay someone off to go to the game and throw something at Ben Simmons or try and confront him so that Ben can have good evidence for his arbitration hearing
