I have a question for those who believe in the right to carry guns in Churches. Why? I hate guns. Just weapons to kill. Oh, and if you say it's for your protection than you are a hypocrite if you were one of those against lockdowns and masks during the pandemic. Your risk of dying of Covid was so much higher than getting shot and killed in a church and I won't even try to calculate it. In 38 years 89 people were shot and killed in churches from 1980 - 2018. That's a little over two a year. In TWO years 989,473 Americans died of Covid. So, if you minimized the risk as not a big deal, then I would just say your odds of being shot and killed by a gun in your church this year are about 2 in 329.5 million. https://projects.voanews.com/mass-shootings/english/locations/worship.html
I think you have answered your own question here. Why are you trying to regulate a thing that isn't dangerous. The answer is obviously to just put legal pressure on gun owners and limit rights as much as possible. But you have no real public safety concern.
I guess I'm not a hypocrite because I wanted lockdowns with UBI and I want the 2nd amendment to continue. BTW, I personally saw a deacon attacked by a homeless man inside of our church when I was a teenager. Churches have collection plates thus can be easy targets.
sir... SIR... you must conform to a specific politic party line please and not have an opinion outside of that. dont be ridiculous guns dont kill people. churches are where people are killed. cancel the churches! /troll comments
I've never seen anyone open carry at church. If I start seeing it, I'll go find some other church. "Good guys with guns" just make it harder to spot the bad guys. They tell me every week to trust in God alone. That relying on your wealth, your job, your family, or anything else for security is a form of idolatry. I suppose relying on guns and self-defense - or on your civil rights for that matter - is idolatry as well. So I have to wonder about Christians packing heat in church. From the public policy side, the government should make no law regulating guns in church. But, churches should be able to bar entry to anyone with a gun if that's what they want their policy to be, and government shouldn't be telling them they aren't allowed to do so.
The responsible thing to do is for the pastor of any church to organize his church staff in a way that makes his congregation believe that this is a completely safe place to worship. Any pastor that DOESN'T do that in this environment, and in the era of mass shootings is irresponsible. I think having a couple security members of the church with a small side firearm around the entrance as people come in and out is smart. It doesn't have to be a security guard or cop. It could be a deacon or a trusted member of the congregation that has a military background, or some experience in law enforcement. So to me this issue just goes to the issue of leadership at the top. If you have a pastor and senior deacons running the church who let politics enter the church and feed that fear that the right has, I think it's highly likely that'll feed the gun nuts in the crowd to feel like they need to come to church packing heat. Two un-militarized security personnel at the entrance who double as greeters on Sundays would be appropriate.
Because out on the streets they are. There is no damn reason for automatic weapons in the hands of civilians. All they do is put weapons of mass destruction in the hands of killers, who want to shoot or kill as many people as they can in a short amount of time.
Good thing you have to be either very rich (NFA stamp) or a member of a swat team to carry an automatic weapon...
Does that same logic apply to doctor's office? Post office? Grocery store? Flower shop? Nail salon? Applebee's? Home Depot? Etc.?
Well semi-automatic weapons shouldn't be in the hands of civilians either, and especially shouldn't be allowed to be carried in public.
I would prefer every Sunday to go to a random person’s house that’s painting and watch the paint dry than go to church. Good luck with that though.
None of your points here are at all relevant to churches. You undercut your argument by showing stats that it isn't a problem and now are showing you agree you don't care about churches but gun ownership in general.
I just hate guns on the streets. Too many hot heads just shooting someone in road rage or just because they are full of hate and lash out. My point about churches was that why does anyone feel so threatened in a church that they feel a need to carry a gun in one hand and a Bible in the other? It makes no sense.
I have no problems with churches protecting themselves with firearms as churches have been targets in the past.
Plenty of things probably make no sense to you. You shouldn't go around trying to ban those things. This isn't even a debate between Liberty and public safety. This is just you don't like it so ban it.
