The upside is there…. You never know. How bout these running backs?!? Looking a hell of a lot better than you were giving credit for. Walker a 4.38, Breece Hall sub 4.4… gimme some of that, and a James cook and now we’re talking. That corner from UTSA has nasty measurables too
He does have upside. Hutch has just as much upside plus he has has shown it on field. Hutch explosiveness, agility and change of direction testing was other worldly. Even 40 time was good for DE. Walker had elite testing as well, but you take the problem guy with the measurables first.
Don’t think it’d be that bad of a pick. They have a good OL and he can sit behind Goff for a year. I know next year’s class is supposed to be “better” but when you look at the 2021 class, there are zero guarantees. It’s still early for them but you just really never know.
Willis is not a top 5 pick. He’s not even a top 3 QB this draft on a lot of boards. People get enamored with a big arm, watch the tape. He’s not accurate, terrible decision maker and is small. I’m not spending a top 5 pick on a Jalen Hurts clone.
You’re in the vast minority with this thinking. He’ll be the 1st QB taken, at what pick is the question
Huh? Not even close. You can look at almost any scouting site. Pickett is the consensus number 1 QB. Willis is a project. Some sites have Ridder above Willis. People need to stop with this. The dude is just over 6 ft, has a strong but inaccurate arm and is a good athlete. Corral gives you everything Willis does, is taller and played against real competition.
The issue with Hutch is he struggled really badly against teams (with little to no impact) that had really good offensive lines, and the games also resulted in losses. I would’ve liked to see impact on important/major games or against great OL. That’s what’s coming at NFL level. He is versatile and has a great motor but just couldn’t see it against great competition. He’s good just not as elite as you could like at the top end. Not a Bosa-type.
But would you spend one on a Russell Wilson? Not saying that’s who he’ll be but accurately predicting QBs with absolute certainty is simply not possible. Countless pro GMs and scouts have lost jobs trying but we can always rely on message board GMs. Gotta love draft season.
I would. But Willis hasn’t shown the arm talent that Wilson had in college either. Willis is closer to Hurts than Wilson. Wilson is a true quarterback. Willis might get there, he hasn’t shown it yet.
We agree on most things, but on this we've got to agree to disagree. Walker was the best player on an awesome DL that was the best defense I've seen in yrs. He played as a DT in pass rush situations. He's got the ability to be so much more if given the freedom to just be a pass rusher from the outside like Hutch was. I still like Hutch alot but short arms from a edge worries me and Walker has 35 1/2 inch reach while Hutch's is 31 1/2 that 4 inches will make a huge difference in the NFL. I do believe Walker is just starting to scratch the surface of his ability. What problems did Walker have? I haven't read anything but him being a great guy/teammate. With that said, I've still got 1. Neal 2. Walker
I’m not against Walker at all, I’m weary of combine warrior workouts catapulting a player to top 5 when he was late first round on most sites. Hutch and Kayvon have average arm length. Walker has elite arm length. The physical talent is there. Hutch is every bit as athletic, specifically in short are burst. Plus he has the production and tape. I would be happy with Walker but not at 3.
The dream draft (if Watson goes to Carolina) would Neal at 3 and Walker at 6. If the Texans keep Tunsil, Gardner at 3 would work as well.
I thought your comment was in regards to the Lions taking Malik Willis at 2. Hutchinson has upside as well but he plays a less important position than Willis, so I don't think it's that off the wall to at least be considering Willis at 2. No telling how he turns out, and odds are stacked against him in Detroit, but I think they should at least be looking at it. Regardless, Willis garnering interest in the top 5 is really good for the Texans. I would prefer to move down a few spots and collect more capital if they aren't completely sold on a guy. I love Kyle Hamilton, and even though I hate the idea generally of taking a safety at 3, I wouldn't hate the pick if they went that direction. I'm not in love with Hutchinson or Thibodeaux for the Texans at 3, but then again I didn't like the JJ Watt pick, so these things can make you look stupid. I also get the vibe that Tibodeaux is purposefully tanking his draft stock to prevent landing on one of the true rebuild teams. Some of the things he has been saying are downright ridiculous. I could see him falling to Atlanta or someone like that and turning into the best player in this draft. That being said, I don't like what I'm hearing, and I would prefer we stay away. Some general thoughts: Evan Neal is a slam dunk. Book it. Perinneal pro bowler for years to come. I hope the Jags take Ekwonnu bc his technique is lacking, he bullied college guys due to his strength and size, and at least early on he won't be able to do that in the NFL. High bust risk imo, and the higher he goes maybe the less of a chip he has on his shoulder. If I were the Texans I'm staying away from him. Stingley should go in the top 5. He's the best corner in this draft, and I don't think it's that close. Nakobe Dean is going to light up the NFL. Great value if he falls to the end of the 1st round.
I was talking about Willis earlier. He’s not a top 5 talent and not the top QB in this draft. But you’re right, any QB interest would be good for us for sure. Let other teams take Pickett, Willis and Corral. I also said I wouldn’t want Walker top 3 because he lit up the combine. But I could be talked into it.
I disagree on Willis. He's the only QB I would consider taking top 10. No other QB has that skillset and no other QB has the upside. I could be talked into Walker for sure.
Pickett and Corral are just as physically gifted. Willis is Jalen Hurts 2.0. Barely over 6 ft, cannon for arm but horribly inaccurate. Corral is every bit the athlete and measured in at 6’2 with similar arm strength and better accuracy. Pickett doesn’t have the arm those two have but it’s above average to good. And he has the running ability.
