Bad shooting night, St. Mary was focused on keeping the ball out of his hand. Still made impact on defense. That’s what separates him from other prospects.
Cmon bro this is St Marys. No offense to any Gaels fans out there I know they are 17th ranked and all, but this is the 2nd time that unit has shut him down. Chets biggest question mark besides his frame is why he doesnt get up for big games and premier players - will he ever be a #1 option? Isnt that the goal when drafting so high? At his very worst though Chet will be a very good 3&D guy which is valuable in the league. Hope he has a way better showing in his tournament games coming up vs the best of the best.
Some people act like he’s had bad games against big competition. That’s just false. He didn’t have a bad game last night except for finishing, and he’s still better than Banchero after off night shooting. St. Mary’s is the thorn in Gonzaga side. Chet was still a defensive force last night. Even in an off night offensively he can affect games.
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/evan-mobley-1/gamelog/2021 Those are Mobley's gamelogs from last year at USC. He had back to back 10 point meh games in the tourney. He had a 3 point game against Utah and then only 11 the next time he played. He "struggled" against UCLA and against Oregon in both the regular season and tournament. And he was "the guy" at USC. Chet isn't "the guy" at Gonzaga. They have lots of good guards. They have Timme. Doesn't mean it isn't a concern. For one, can he BE the guy? For two you just want dominance every time. I expect he'll have at least one great tourney game and at least one tourney game where he's an afterthought. We shall see. Health/injury potential aside, his defense and 3point shooting is enough to mean he will be able to contribute very solidly at the NBA level, so he has a low floor, health aside, to me.
He’s been the guy in international tournaments. The coaching staff has came out and asked him to be more selfish, he’s a team first guy right now.
I had the same reservations about Mobley too regarding his play vs other good interior players and good teams - and he's not a catalyst for CLE - he is pretty well insulated there. Mobley is a great player, but "Missing out on Chet" wont mean that anyone else who is selected wont flourish for us. If bigs can rebound, board and hit open shots its a win in todays NBA, but everyone just wants that novelty "unicorn" guy that they think will change the game. Its understandable. Kristaps, Poku, Mobley, Sengun, Chet, Victor. You can probably start to include Dereck Lively in those discussions and I would presume more and more will start to come down the pipe. Im not down on Chet, but he's not outside of criticism in the same way everyone could probably pull a laundry list of likes/dislikes on the other guys. I would want a guy that is highly regarded to be consistent sure, but at the very least to bring it against other good teams in a championship atmoshpere. Its not an outlier if you can pull up all the ranked games/good interior players and start to see a pattern. Auburn and Duke are loaded with talent too, but those guys routinely make their presence felt and dont shy away from the competition. I hope Chet has several signature games in the tournament.
İ said that "he's not enough for NBA" i repeat he can't play without injury first 20 games. He is so skinny and he will play pf. İmpossible! If Bol bol and Taco fall can't play, that's why chet can't play either.
He body looks so fragile that he’s one hip check away from exploding jabari looks like he’ll be a bully on the court by 25. He 6’10 but looks natural and looks like his body is ready to put on another 20 pounds easily
I totally agree with this. He's going to be special and we need a shot to get him if we get a #3 pick.
