His defense is elite, I’ll be perfectly happy if we draft Chet. He is really strong for his frame, my concern is the physics of 6’9/6’10 guys having the leverage to move him out of the paint, causing over the back fouls.
I don't know what I want more: Chet doing an outlet pass to a streaking Green down the court for a highlight jam OR a slippery Green driving into the paint and getting it out to Mr Automatic Jabari for 3. Good position to be in for the Rockets.
The beauty of Chet is he’s also a smart defender, he stays vertical and has quick hands. Still, it’s a fair concern.
Concerns aside, I’ll be more excited about drafting Chet than any player since Yao. Rockets don’t seem right without an elite big man. I’m really looking forward to the WCC championship game tonight, I hope he drops a triple double on the fools
That’s the beauty of Chet as well, he’s as good a 3 pt shooter as Jabari right now. Honestly, if we get either I would be ecstatic. I just prefer Chet because of the immense upside on offense and defense
Theyre gonna push him around but they still have to shoot over his enormous arms. Mobley debunked this already.
Odds of us getting the number 1 or 2 pick is 27.4% currently. Best not to get too excited. We're more likely to end up with 5th pick than a top 3 pick.
I mean its the WCC. I think strength of competition has to be a point of contention. Chet Holmgren needs to have the best tourney out of the 3 big guys to alleviate those concerns that he shrinks when matched up against other 5 star players or ranked teams.
Are you guys ready to have his dad at every game recording with his Betamax? And...will his knees last. Think Ralph Sampson.
On the other hand, a slighter frame and carrying less weight through his career has helped KD make incredible recoveries from both Achilles Rupture and a Jones Fracture, which effectively ended the careers of DeMarcus Cousins and Yao Ming respectively. I think it's just incredibly hard to project. Chet definitely scares me, I don't question the talent; just that he's about 20-25 lbs lighter than literally any guy who you can comp him to. Even if you expect him to gain weight and strength as he matures, at best he's probably topping out at what guys like Mobley, Davis, Durant and Porzingis came into the league at. Giannis came into the league at 190, but he was also about 18 months younger than Chet, and has also grown 2-3 inches as he has gone up to 240. If you told me that Holmgren was going to eventually have the body of these guys in their prime, absolutely no issue. If you told me that he was going to look like these guys in their rookie years? That's more dicey.
Chet is really helping me see who talks out of their asses and who actually knows what they are talking about. There is reason to like Jabari at #1 and I get it, but the narrative surrounding Chet is chalk full of the lowest level takes. The guy plays like no one else in the NBA so comparing him to another skinny white dude does absolutely nothing. When people talk about 1/1 this is what they mean. Anyone straight up writing him off signals that in the future their opinions shouldn't have much weight. Chet will be consensus #1 by draft day even though I totally understand having Jabari there.
I'm no expert but imo.... Chet ceiling is KD and floor is Gobert. Smith ceiling is Bosh and floor is a Rashard Lewis. I think if you tank you're trying to win the lottery so it's obvious who you take if both available at your pick.
I need to see Chet consistently playing guys who are going to be pros (here or abroad) before I totally buy in. He plays on a team of, essentially, college allstars agains the likes of Dixie State and Pepperdine. Thats not his fault but that is a fact. And then when he plays the big schools he has signigficant problems (Texas: 2 pts/5 boards and 1 assist; Texas Tech: 5/11/2; Alabama: 10/11/2) While the upside is certainly tantalizing, I am not sure that his offense will translate into a #1 pick type. Hopefully the tournament answers that question.
