It was a raw deal in how loosely worded it was. Zelensky knows that first hand with his pleas to the EU and UN.

Almost as badly worded as our pact with Taiwan.

It's like they completely ignore the fact that Putin has been supporting the separatist movement for nearly a decade and prior to that had a puppet regime. Putin's efforts to control Ukraine didn't start in November 2021. He used agent orange against leader that wasn't working for Putin's interests once before. Things calmed down when he had a puppet regime and then flared up again because of a democratic revolution. He's tried to take out Zelensky at the knees politically by funding alt candidates and waging a proxy war in the Donbas region.

That is my thing if they gave up nukes and we promised to protect them, we should be in there now......not that I WANT to go, but we need to honor our agreements.

I am amazed at how many people are eager for war with Russia. Like genuinely amazed. Some of the same people who rail against Bush for the Iraq war now want war with Putin.

Surely Putin's generals would overthrow him before they allowed their country to be overrun? RIGHT? Just like the Iraqi generals overthrew Sadam and the Taliban surrendered Al-Qaeda to avoid being conquered. America will win! Murica f yeah!

The more likely scenario is that Russia would follow it's stated military doctrine and use tactical nuclear weapons against NATO forces until a peace treaty was signed.

I agree with you, but we have screwed over so many other countries. What's one more I guess? There is no good option that I see. It is like which pile of sh*t would you rather have? The small one or the bigger one?

This would be a no win situation.... Because we would get set back 1000 years

Well I take that back.. Would be a big win for Afghanistan...

I don't support War crimes. In this case Putin is clearly Bush.

We rally around the flag in this country like a MFer. If Putin openly challenges the United States this country will become united. Don't be such a wuss.

I am not at all amazed. My first fear - and I posted as much - was that we'd work ourselves up to fight. All the propaganda we like to trade peer to peer about how wonderful the Ukrainians are, how evil and crazy Putin is, how dysfunctional the Russian army is, how corrupt Russian oligarchs are, how united the West is, comparisons to Chamberlain and Sudetenland, parallels to Taiwan. We are mobilizing ourselves for a fight, which could well go nuclear. And I'm not surprised at all. It's very reminiscent of what it felt like after 9/11, when we were going to kick somebody's ass but we just didn't know who's. Or after the invasion of Kuwait (when, granted, I was just a teen) where accounts of torture were prominent. I'm glad that Biden has taken a more reserved approach, but he may get overcome by public sentiment if we keep going this way.

The Keystone pipeline just shut itself down I guess. And the reserves that are on federal land are prohibiting themselves from drilling there I guess as well.

So many folks on here do not understand how O&G works.

What is misleading is Biden and Psaki citing the amount of outstanding leases that are inactive, as if private companies and landowners can just turn on the spigot of production on those when they feel like. Those leases are inactive for a reason (dry holes, litigation, LEGISLATIVE holdups, etc.)

I'll push back on any criticism of the First Gulf War. George HW Bush took a mandate to save Kuwait and stopped at that mandate with minimal loss of American lives. That's an example of a highly effective use of American force to secure a sovereign state. If we could do a Gulf War in Russia we would do it.

The hawks are disturbing. I’m glad the administration is restrained. Basically nobody likes seeing a war occur but a shooting war between nuclear powers is uncharted territory and it could lead to a nuclear holocaust. “We died defending Ukrainian freedom” will be small consolation as we watch our children’s faces melt off.

That would include you. Keystone pipeline would be used to take Canadian tar sands oil to export locations outside of N. America - it would have increased gas prices, not decreased them.

That's how you can tell someone doesn't know what they are talking about.

You should listen to what oil companies are actually saying to their investors versus what politicians are. If you did you'd know that the above is wrong.

Well they've taken their masks off. OP and @SuraGotMadHops hate their fellow Americans more than a dictator who is threatening their country with nukes. And the really ****ed up thing is they represent a significant percentage of the Republican party.
