I think it was a fools errand to think Green would have a prime rookie year with this team and this coach. The one thing that reminded me yesterday why I stopped watching was the 5-7 minute stretches where KPJ, Green and Al-P were all out of the game. By the time they got back in the game was essentially lost. Green didn't touch the ball again outside of the last possession of the first half. Not sure what this strategy is (tanking?) but it sure is frustrating. My biggest question is why it seems he goes 5-7 minutes of on court time sitting in the corner. Is that coaches decision? His? Is he tired? Are they trying to give others more reps? I only tune in to watch Green, Al-P, KPj and Jaygup. Thats it. If anyone else shoots the ball, I couldn't care less about that possession. I think I like Green in the ball dominant role, KPJ in the slasher role and Sengun as the fulcrum. That looked like it has massive potential. I like Tate but he doesn't fit with that unit. Need a much much better 3 and D player than him.
Well, I am older now too. It is a forum after all, I still have some fuel left in the tank, don't you worry. Flawed like many here, just wanted to join in, if it excites me, it excites me, if it angers me, it angers me. I am sure not wearing my emotions on my sleeves IRL but here I do.
Are you sure the BBS is good for your health? Or do you come here to surround yourself with "mental stootfish"?
Here's a word of wisdom that may be helpful. Whenever someone starts getting annoying, try to remind yourself they may only be 12 years old.
I keep hearing this a ton about Jalen needing to be more assertive. 2 of the starters are vets with permanent resting beech faces. For example when KD landed on the Sonics there was no need to be assertive. Launch away all you want. It's like saying Kumbucket, why aren't you more assertive? He's playing with vets. Granted, Wood and Gordon are not Draymond and Steph but in the eyes of Silas, they are. There were at least 4 times that Green got himself open cutting to the basket, Sengod was the only one to find him and that was with Wood and Gordon missing that game. Green would get blocked on that attempt from Sengod. And 3 of your best players cannot be resting at the same time. What is up with that. I want to believe Felicia is calling him to do this type of stuff to stay aboard the tank. Cade can shoot 21 times to score his 21 points as the nature of his position allows him to be 'assertive'.
Yeah it's extremely frustrating. I think in hindsight looking back it's pretty clear that Silas was hired to be the stopgap coach kind of like David Culley was with the Texans. The Rockets knew deep down Harden wasn't staying so it was pointless to go after a big name coach. Hence, we have Silas. Just take a step back and look at reality. Silas is extremely under qualified and in over his head. That's why I can't bash the guy too much. Depending on this year's draft and our progression, Silas will soon be gone and we'll get a real coach. Just gotta suffer until then.
Well said. Right now we don't have an heirarchy implemented in our team. Whereas if you look at Pistons, Cade is practically the designated number 1 option. He is constantly the player with the most attempts on his team. Nothing wrong with Jalen deferring to vets on this team early in his career (especially when you got vets that keeps demanding for the ball.) Like you stated, no one likes playing with a ball hog. Jalen has even stated in a post game interview early in the season that he knows he is a rookie so he has to pay his dues first. I hope next year he will be a little more selfish especially when he is shooting lights out. It's a good problem to have. It's better to have an unselfish rookie than a selfish rookie. He will learn when to be selfish later down the road like all young stars have.
All the greats respected the hierarchy for half their rookie season, until their competitiveness kicked in.
I hear you on Chet but I'm really opening up more to Jabari if he really is like an oversized Klay Thompson. Imagine Green driving then kicking it out to Jabari for open 3s. Yeah after this draft we'll have Sam Cassell as the Rockets coach.
At one point heat had Tucker and Travis Scott on Green. The 19 year old Sengun had double teams sent his way and Adebayo is supposed to be the best defense. Until Silas did what he does, Sengun had that match up won. Then we just went away from what was working.
I really don't understand this sentiment at all In Kobe, we're talking about the second-best SG of all-time IMO he's only behind MJ, the GOAT in addition to the best SG ever If Green is going to use those two players as his SG template, I'm all in for the 'mamba mentality' Also, Kobe is just 14th all-time in FGA per game at 19.5 MJ is 2nd at 22.9 LeBron is 12th at 19.6 They combined for 15 rings Seems like those three figured out the proper role 'conductive to a winning basketball culture' MJ, Shaq and Kobe made Phil Jackson, not the other way around, and it was Tex Winter's triangle that unlocked MJ's greatness You mentioned Kobe's success coming only on 'stacked teams' ... How is this any different from MJ, LeBron, Bird, Magic, Duncan, KG, etc ..? Dream (and maybe Dirk) are the only 2 superstars I can recall that won a ring without at least 1 other superstar teammate (Billups' Pistons were fluke anomaly as only champ past 4 decades without a true superstar IMO) As far as Kobe vs Shaq ... I have never really understood this argument During their 8 seasons together, Kobe averaged 16.9 FGA while Shaq averaged 18.4 FGA Kobe could score from all 3 levels, attack off the dribble to create for himself and others, and was a career 84% FT shooter Shaq was exclusively a low-block player, with range out to 5 feet at most, and he was a crippling liability in crunch time with his pathetic FT% Once, hack-a-shaq became the league-norm with the game on the line, of course the ball would be in Kobe's hands more at the most critical moments That's not being selfish ... just sound basketball strategy As I think the breakdown below illustrates, the Shaq/Kobe Lakers enjoyed their most success when Kobe took more shots than Shaq And, as we all know, Kobe kept on winning titles taking the most shots as the alpha on his team without Shaq, something O'neal never accomplished Shaq's last 3 years in Orlando, Shaq was the alpha with Penny as his willing sidekick The Magic went 0-for-1 in the Finals (94-96) Penny (age 22-24) - 14.3 FGA Shaq (age 20-23) - 18.8 FGA The first 4 years together, Kobe willingly deferred to Shaq as the alpha The Lakers went 1-for-1 in the Finals (97-00) Kobe (age 18-21) - 12.8 FGA Shaq (age 24-27) - 19.4 FGA The last 4 years together, Kobe became the alpha while Shaq bucked at accepting a sidekick role The Lakers went 2-for-3 in the Finals (01-04) Kobe (age 22-25) - 21 FGA Shaq (age 28-31) - 17.4 FGA After their divorce, they spent 7 years apart until Shaq's retirement Kobe remained the clear alpha in LA every season Kobe's Lakers went 2-for-3 in the Finals (05-11) Shaq had no choice but to accept the sidekick role to Wade, Nash, LeBron, etc Shaq's teams went 1-for-1 in the Finals (05-11) Kobe (age 26-32) - 21.9 FGA Shaq (age 32-38) - 10.7 FGA Here are Kobe's FGA per game by season v/s rank on team for shot attempts (and his best teammate that season with FGA): 97 - 5.9 / 8th (Shaq 19.4) 98 - 11.6 / 4th (Shaq 19.1) 99 - 15.6 / 2nd (Shaq 18.1) 00 - 17.9 / 2nd (Shaq 21.1) 01 (age 22) - 22.2 / 1st (Shaq 19.2) 02 - 20 / 1st (Shaq 18.3) 03 - 23.5 / 1st (Shaq 18.1) 04 - 18.1 / 1st (Shaq 14.1) 05 - 20.1 / 1st (Butler 12.9) 06 (age 27) - 27.2 / 1st (Odom 11.6) 07 - 22.8 / 1st (Odom 12.2) 08 - 20.6 / 1st (Gasol 12.3) 09 - 20.9 / 1st (Gasol 12.9) 10 - 21.5 / 1st (Gasol 13) 11 (age 32) - 20 / 1st (Gasol 13.7) 12 - 23 / 1st (Gasol 14.1) 13 - 20.4 / 1st (Gasol 11.8) Here are career FGA per game leaders all-time: 1 - Elgin Baylor 23.8 Michael Jordan 22.9 Wilt Chamberlain 22.5 Allen Iverson 21.8 5 - Pete Maravich 21.3 Bob Pettit 21.3 Jerry West 20.4 Rick Barry 20.4 Dominique Wilkins 20.1 10 - George Mikan 20.0 George Gervin 19.9 LeBron James 19.6 Geoff Petrie 19.5 Kobe Bryant 19.5 15 - Larry Bird 19.3 Joe Fulks 19.1 Oscar Robertson 18.9 John Havlicek 18.8 Paul Arizin 18.7 20 - Kevin Durant 18.7 Russell Westbrook 18.7 Elvin Hayes 18.6 Damian Lillard 18.4 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 18.1 25 - Chris Webber 18.1
Oh, of course. There are some great posters here. Then there are the "I know you are, but what am I?" posters; but that's why God gave us the ability to scroll down.
Green led the team in shot attempts last night with 16. In the past month he's averaged 14+ attempts per game, which is higher than his season average, so he is trending up. His usage rate is higher than every rookie drafted in the top 10 besides Cade and Suggs. Green is not lacking in opportunity. I think it is better for Green's development to play within a team offense and expand his role over time rather than have him try do everything from the start. It may look like we're forcing him to be passive, but I've actually been impressed by his willingness to move off the ball. He's still a willing passer and letting him pick and choose his spots has kept turnovers to a minimum. In the past 15 games he's averaging 18.3 points, 3.1 assists, and only 1.5 turnovers. That's crazy good. I'd rather he make the most of his touches instead of forcing the issue.
I think the era Kobe was from is over where he can chuck 33% from 3 and still hailed as the best because he shot so many and made a couple clutch ones.
