Mobely is a average scrub. He ain’t no generational player. Garland just makes him look good. Let’s be real
As hesitant as I am about Holmgren I'm coming around to the idea of potentially adding him to the Rockets. This feels eerily similar to the Jalen Green hype train though. 1 - Jabari 2 - Chet 3 - Banchero 4 - Griffin 5 - Ivey
I know I’ve said it already, but Banchero is closer to Green hype. Offense first player, that came on late to get a lot of hype over a player that had been consensus number 1 for a while in Chet. Chet is Mobley with a better shot, don’t make that mistake again.
Jalen Green is the known commodity, Mobley is the higher risk higher upside unicorn. So if you compare them Jabari is the Green of this draft and Holmgren is the Mobley of this draft, although Jabari is a better prospect than Green was due to his height snd defensive prowess.
Lol nah, Banchero and Green are very different. Banchero is very inefficient, 46% FG and only 32% from 3 on just 3 attempts in NCAA. He's also not very athletic but is more of a "skill" player, except his skill is ISOs and mid rsnge Js. Green got hype because of his athletic dunks and his 3 pt sniping, he shot 36% 3 pt in GLeague on over 5 attempts a game. Green did most of damage in uptempo fast break offenses cuz of his athleticism, Banchero plays a slow mid court style game. Banchero is closer to Cade Cunningham than Green, just like Cade he can easily be the focal point of the offense snd do lots of ISO scoring. Although of course Cade has much better upside than Banchero cuz of his 3 pt shooting and more developed passing game. If Green shot 32% from 3 and took mostly mid range Js on bad efficiency like Banchero he would never have gotten the hype he did and it wouldnt be a question who to take between Mobley and Green. I agree with you on Holmgren/Mobley though, you can even see it in their frames lol
Not comparing types of players but the general rhetoric of how things started to happen towards end of season. Banchero is the guy late to the party. Chet has been the dude for longer. But I do agree with you that Banchero and Cade are similar type athletes. Cade is a far better playmaker and shooter though.
There is nobody who is giving Banchero HOF comps (I have compared him to Mo Taylor and I like Banchero). Meanwhile, Chet is put up as a revolutionary, perennial MVP who is the best at everything. Much like the Green fans last summer giving him the MJ/Kobe treatment because of his time in the g league. It's just so unlikely that any player is going to be that good that.
I haven’t seen a single person make those claims about Chet. In this thread alone Banchero has been compared to Lebron and Melo. Scouts have compared Chet to KD, KG, Dirk and Porzingis. Mainly based on shooting, defense, handles and athleticism. Realistically he’s probably very similar to Mobley, but with a further along offensive skillset and not quite as good defending perimeter.
this is what i worry with banchero. even as a best case projection, let's say he does become the next carmelo - is prime melo really going to help the team get closer to a championship? when he's been mostly a high volume, middling efficiency scorer with lackluster defense. and i actually watched a lot of melo games back in the day when he was on syracuse and during his denver days... and banchero is nowhere close to melo in terms of quickness, footwork, jump shooting, and overall iq and feel for the game.
How is giving Green the MJ/Kobe treatment revolutionary? Scoring, athletic guards have always been compared to MJ/Kobe off the top of my head Andrew Wiggins and RJ Barrett also got MJ/Kobe comparisons. Being compared to MJ/Kobe is just thst, a comparison. Even the biggest Green boosters here never said he was gonna be MJ 2.0 and immediately make the Rox a contender. Chet being good at everything is just a fact. He's good at everything in college. The raw nos arent high but the %s are something you'd see in a video game rather than IRL. Will that translate to the NBA? Nobody knows thats why there is a debate on who is no 1 unlike last year or in 2018. As much hype as Green got Cade was still the consensus no 1 and it didnt change until the draft ended. So not sure where you get all that crap about insane Green hype it was only insane compared to Mobley but everyone still wanted Cade over Green, even the Green fans here wanted Cade at 1.
Mobley isn't a scrub but he is pretty overrated right now. At best he's on the same level as most of the top rookies. In reality he's behind Cade and Giddey, probably behind Barnes and slightly above Green. He's probably going to win RoY because Garland became a top 5 PG. Green has been the better rookie the past month.
These are Jabari and Chets Synergy metrics. If you go based solely on advanced stats as a determining factor I dont think there is any way around the data for Jabari Smith. For me I still see the value in Banchero for his intangibles and IQ even though his last game was pretty bad and doesnt help in making a case for him. I've prepared myself for any of the 3 big guys and know that they will all be a great help to this team in their own unique ways. Im also starting to watch a fair amount of Dyson Daniels and all I can say is DAMN! https://imgur.com/gallery/zDLMI3B
Wut? It's as if he has not played an entire season, or that he did not just score 21 points in this game. Man some of y'all are over the top when it comes to Banchero he will not make it out of the top 5 period.
I think Mobley is amazing. And at #3 you couldn't ask for a better result out of a prospect. My issue with Mobley is that players like him have a ceiling of a #2. You don't go for #2s when you need a #1. Cleveland got incredibly lucky that Garland appears to be a Top 3 PG this year and for the foreseeable future. Cunningham, Green, Giddey and Suggs all have #1 ceilings. Mobley doesn't and probably never will. Even the greatest bigs of the last 20 years needed a star wing to carry them in the playoffs. I've watched a lot of Mobley games and if anyone were to take him over Cunningham or Giddey to start a team, I think they'd be insane. Green I can still see the hesitation but if he continues to shoot and control the pace like he has, then I'd say the same about him. I'm firmly in team Chet because he looks to me like a Mobley that could actually be a #1. Mobley just doesn't have the offensive ceiling that Chet has. He looks more of like an Al Horford type. Maybe like a more nimble Gobert with a slightly better offensive arsenal. The only thing that scares me about Chet is his frame. At that size, after watching Yao, I'm afraid of what putting 30-50 lbs on that body will do to his bones.
Yes, you did..... As for being a facilitator, he's not doing it enough, if that truly is one of his biggest benefactors to being drafted top 2. I never said he didn't have top 3 upside but the way he has been performing, he really hasn't lived up to expectations. There's still a lot of basketball to be played so the list I made is something that will obviously flow as the season/tourney does.
What were his expectations? I think he has done as much as any other prospect and He has not been playing badly, every one of these guys have had had bad or not so great games but for some reason Banchero's gets amplified. I am going to stop going back and forth about Banchero everybody has a right to their opinion, I just had hoped we could have real discussions on these prospects and not have to revert to defending a favorite guy at all cost.
