So we are doing 70 lbs next weekend and are arguing about what to add to the pot. Corn and potatoes are obvious. So are mushrooms, but I was blown away when a friend put brussel sprouts in. Also saw online that pineapple is also a good addition. Any others?
Pineapple?!?! Brussel sprouts?!?! Do these people also like beans in their chili? As long as you’re going that route, you might as well add a lot of mayonnaise, vinegar, and cinnamon.
No need to try to improve on the fantastic basics. putting graffiti on the Mona Lisa won’t make her better.
Never seen pineapple in crawfish, but oranges are frequently used. I can see how pineapple can a similar variant.
70LBs of crawfish? You need multiple pots and burners (and don't reuse the boil water, or some people say go for it, I've heard 263 different opinions on this), then you can play with different things. eta: you left out andouille in the "obvious" category. And half garlic. And half lemons, and onion...
Garlic bulbs sound good. Would you peel them first? And Andouille I like as a side, but would that get boiled in the pot, also? I'm not making any of it, but I am going to bring stuff to throw in.
I’m old and cranky and have a bad back. Like with everything else, my opinion on crawfish no longer has any relevance in this modern world. If it ever did. that being said, I could see Brussels sprouts being really good. I know artichokes are. Celery is also good. I still maintain that if I could have only three seasonings (I can’t), I’d have salt, cayenne and cloves. Cloves are awesome, but you’ll go broke buying them in a store. A one to five pound bag on Amazon is SO much cheaper. Don’t forget butter as well.
As far as mix ins, I use butter and lemon pre drop. In the drop it’s corn, onion halves, garlic cloves, mushrooms, red potato halves, andouille sausage quarters. We do a benefit where I do 1200-1500 pounds and I’ve had requests to do brussel sprouts, carrots, celery, broccoli and other things. I’ll throw it in a pot if they bring it. It’s honestly not that bad. As far as the citrus, that’s a Vietnamese style. That’s why you see some people use Sunny D in their boil (I have) it’s a nice change up.
Oh man, I feel you. My L3 disc did its "every 5 years explosion" last Sunday and I was a little ball of hate until 2 days ago, when the lightning bolts stopped shooting down my left leg and I could sit in a chair without pain for 30 minutes at a time.
LMAO I had a (white) friend named Shad in High School. I then met his (white) doppelganger Thad while partying at the rugby house at SFA in the mid 1990s. They all really do look/act alike.
don't forget the garlic and onion. I also like fresh greenbeans. They soak up the spice and are awesome.
This is educational. Things I've never tried in a pot: Green beans Sunny D Brussels sprouts Broccoli Pineapple Things I have no desire to try in a pot: Sunny D Broccoli Pineapple
If you’ve ever ate crawfish at a Vietnamese restaurant, they were most likely done in water with Sunny D or orange juice
