One thing I will say about Clutchfans. The overall site is usually correct about the overall needs of the team. The team though, usually has different motives on what they think is best for the team. The Rockets are going to keep Christian Wood until they feel they are ready to start the climb to contending. He is the perfect tank man.
One thing you have to give Green credit for, his highlight reel package is pretty amazing. The plays that he can make are top tier and he’s only scratching the surface of his abilities. This is post all star break only highlights on top of that.
Green has IT. I don't know if he is Batman or Robin but he going to average 26/6/5 one day with good efficiency and above average D.
i think lots of the nba sets bad screens. But CWood is at the bottom for sure, no doubt. consider the Warriors success… lots of all time great players, greatest shooters, etc, etc. still so much of that offense came down to screen setting. Sure a lot of it was technically illegal but you set screens that work and you can get away with and they/Draymond (and everyone he taught) were masters. Sengun will be one of the best screen setters for years. He gets wide. He inches without making it an obvious offense foul. He’ll screen from his backside - technically I think a foul but I’ve seen him get called only a few times for it. Basically he loves to set screens. For the ball handler. On dho’s. Off ball. Whatever. the next step is for the coaching staff to not just make full sue of Senguns screens - cause they do a fair amount of it when he’s in - but to sue him as an example so he can teach others, even Wood… like Draymond set the screen culture for GSW.
Agreed. He’s cleaning up his footwork, cutting, floor recognition and shot selection. the frequency of specular plays is starting to increase at a more rapid clip. will be fun watching him grow.
His trajectory is only pointing up at the moment. I’ll admit it was really difficult watching him struggle early on in the season, but he’s been showing very real signs of all around improvement as of late and it’s great to see. As I’ve always said, I can’t wait to see what he’s like after a full offseason in the weight room and gym before I really judge his game, but he’s starting to look promising sooner than later.
Still quite impressive that green is able to do anything with said sht screens. Good practice I guess
Green really improved his PnR since his injury. It's like night and day. Green and Rockets credit Lucas, not Silas.
Agree with you wholeheartedly I feel the Rockets we're trying to get both Porter and Green going as facilitators. That's a tall tale to truly train two shooting guards to quarterback the team through on the job training at the NBA level. After the well noted struggles, it appears to me that the Rockets simplified things by reducing Green more to a SG and focus more on Porter getting his grove on and recognizing the point better. Since the Porter contract ends sooner, Porter took priority. Rockets needed to find out before this upcoming draft and free agency period to find out if Porter can cut it. I've personally, have seen enough. Now it's a matter of getting Green established in that role. It looked like Porter deferred to Green this past game and the result was 7 assists for Green vs Denver. I'm expecting 22/23 season assists for the team to be: (per game) Porter Jr.......10 Green..............7 Sengun...........6 rest of team... approximately 1 or 3 each ____________________ This comes with improvement of: Porter (as a point guard) Green (focus of getting stronger in off season) Sengun (getting more minutes in the post & as hub of offense near 3-pt line) Tate (bigger threat from 3 opens up greater lanes) Kenyon (bigger threat from 3 opens up greater lanes) Wood (be more team minded, gets help defensively from Jabari or Chet, I hope) Mathews (off season work) Josh Christopher (becomes a better 3-pt shooter through off season workouts) add Garuba into the mix for greater rim protection Bring in one of Jabari, Chet or Banchero. One of them will add assists by their mere presence as the mobility and height paired with Wood brings more scoring opportunities. _______________ Implementation of cutters along with improved 3-pt shooting; which In turn opens greater open lanes....brings us closer to the Mavs model where Silas was successful with in 19/20. Just one humble man's opinion
Sengun sets good screens because european coaches usually put a lot of effort into developing fundamentals. You can see that Sengun was taught "the right way" since early on while someone like Wood didn't
Funny you should mention that. Don’t remember what I read or watched, but JG was talking about how Lucas helped him with reading screens and was calling out over and under during the drill. Silas on the other hand… This Tweet made me laugh yesterday.
Right now, Green, Cade, and Mobley are the best rookies to me Scottie, Giddey, and Franz are tier 2 Sengun was looking like tier 2 earlier in the season. I hope he gets more touches.
I like Giddey and the few games ive seen him hes shown elite play making ability, but I wonder what his career projection is
I am more interested in the tier that could one day lead a team to a championship or at least the Finals.
