Agreed we should learn from past mistakes. It is still argued exactly why there was WW I, but the alliances in which various countries agreed that an attack on one was attack on them was one cause. Then many historians think Nazism and Hitler arose because of how we mishandled Germany right after WW I. Kissigner and many of the old foreign policy hands around Reagan and Bush I thought that it was a big mistake how we handled the aftermath of the end of the Cold War by almost immediately expanding NATO. They warned it could lead to conflict and perhaps even war. This war also will end and hopefully we can have a restart with Russia, which will still be a formidable country with or without Putin that may still oppose some foreign policy goals of the US. We need to take as an example how we handled Japan and Germany after WW II. We need to return to a strong UN and not NATO which is basically an appendage of US foreign military policy.
https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/fatf-adds-uae-grey-money-laundering-watchlist-2022-03-04/ This is huge blow to Russia when you consider that they have smuggled 30 tons of gold from Sudan (via UAE) each year since 2010.
UN is toothless in this situation. The last time UN fought in a major war was in Korea, and that was not only because USSR abstained, but rather China's vote came from the government operating in Taiwan. Otherwise, there'd be no way the CCP would accept boots near their lawn, which they later replied in force. With NATOs tepid lukewarm initial reaction, that paralysis would be deeper in play with the UN Security Council. This is by design but those permanent vetoes make some mattets fruitless when you have authoritarian governments holding 2/5 the vote.
Interesting timing to have exercises with Germany flying fighters and B-52s along the border. US B-52 bombers fly over NATO territory neighboring Ukraine https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wa...erritory-neighboring-ukraine?_amp=true?espv=1
Yet 74% of Americans wants the US military involved with a no-fly zone in Ukraine. Either the polls are crappy or Americans are very confused. Probably a combination of both. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/ex...e-no-fly-zone-russia-oil-ban-poll-2022-03-04/
No it doesn't automatically mean that........wouldn't it be nice to force Putin to do something rather than us always reacting to him? Kennedy had the balls to take on Russia about the missiles in Cuba and they backed down. I don't believe Putin will destroy the world, but he knows that as long as we don't call his bluff he is gonna keep bluffing. DD
Is everybody actually up for nuclear war or an all out conventional war if necessary to defend dear old Montenegro a NATO member which is known to be quite corrupt?
One of the reasons the UN is toothless is that the US has withdrawn funding for it and conservatives in the US have always hated the UN and increasingly moderates also want the US to do whatever it wants without a hassle from the UN as the one remaining superpower. Those days may be numbered with China's economy poised to be the world's largest in the near future and the US essential losses in Iraq and Afghanistan..
No but under the sacred unbreakable pledge of Article 5 of NATO we have to fight an all out war if this small inconsequential country would be attacked.
You’re an ignorant racist dumbass. Your understand of geopolitical dilemmas or cultures different form your own is only overshadowed by your wrong predictions. christ
