How many years before a cultural shift happens?
Took a pandemic for companies to realize remote work is possible. IT companies...

This state is run by car lobbyists and as long as keep building surburbia, nothing is going to change anytime soon.

I don't know what this is, but I don't like it, and I'll have none of it.

Climate change is real. It's also been happening for the history of the Earth. The hysteria over it is delusional. Just saw a trailer for 1992's Freejack. Funny stuff.

Lissen' here, gramps, the timeless ballad Wanna be a Baller, a story about living and slingin' in the 713, was penned and performed by Houston GREAT Lil' Troy. Get your H-Town hip-hop history straight, homie. You can't call yourself a Houston expert without knowing it's rap roots, too.

Soon enough, even the sidewalks we have will become toll roads.

    That's my point man.
We keep building this city to be cars only.
Our mode of transportation is 90% car! How soon before we run out of space to keep building lanes?

How would you implement mass transit in Houston?

Elevated rail, subway with pumping systems, right of way?

    Flood-proof air-conditioned pedestrian tunnels everywhere.

For Houston's urban planners and Texas lawmakers/regulators, car dependency isn't a bug, it's a feature. The folks who run the show want you to be driving everywhere because it benefits their bottom line, so a-drivin' we shall go.

It's going to take several dozen (maybe hundreds) of generations to unwind this amount of deliberate sprawl.

It wouldn't be so bad if the individual neighborhoods and suburbs were designed to be pedestrian friendly, but they're very much not. Pretty much the only place in Houston you can get by without a car is Midtown, and that's only if you're young and childless.

Car free lifestyle is very liberating. It was a very bizarre experience for me to go from regularly driving 30+ minutes for a normal errand to walking everywhere. But I highly recommend it. If you grew up car dependent it's easy to assume that is just "the way things work", but it's a total sham.
