I'm wondering in the opposite direction -- if these sanctions are very effective, at what point does Russia decide it constitutes an act of aggression that requires an aggressive response. Is it not possible that Russia will respond with missiles if the sanctions really do strangle the country? This is somehow hilarious, heartwarming, sobering, and menacing all at the same time. I hope no Russian mothers go to Kyiv to get their sons -- it's a war zone!

As for those saying "What about Yemen and Syria?" Well. The number of U.S. refugees from Syria and Iran dropped considerably in FY18 due to implementation of the latest version of the Trump administration’s travel ban, which prevents individuals from Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen and certain government officials from Venezuela from entering the U.S. I don't have the current numbers.

The calculus on whether or not to embargo Russian oil and gas is very complex. It would have large effects on Western economies, people's welfare, and our own war-readiness in addition to the dynamic impacts it would have on Russia, Russian-Chinese relations, and Russia's war effort. I like how a cartoon can strip away all that nuance and make a simple-minded argument that whatever Biden is doing is the opposite of whatever he should be doing.
You are glossing over a major fact we are talking about major world changing events with countries that have nuclear abilities, it's so much deeper than what the color of their skin is. One country has not outright raided another country since the 1st Iraq war, and we see how people came together over that. I really hope this discussion does not devolve into race because It's so much bigger than that, and it ignores the fact that a lot of countries have been open to refugees of all races, let's not hold up a few examples of things we don't know the entire story about.

Russia is in the process of closing off its borders. Several land borders have closed and planes are being routed back to Russia. Combined with the full ban on independent media and the slow but inevitable shutdown of western social media, we're seeing a full return of the Iron Curtain.
