An opinion piece by a Republican. Totally unsurprising coming from you, with all due respect. I thought it was a pretty good speech. Biden did a mediocre job of delivering it, "stepping" on the applause again and again, as @rocketsjudoka pointed out. After decades as a politician, you would think President Biden would know something about delivery, but apparently not. Still, he had some important moments. He came out strongly against "defunding" the police, which drew bipartisan applause. It's something that will help Democrats running in the midterms. I expect to see that in political ads in the Fall. From Politico: President Joe Biden on Tuesday drew bipartisan applause — including from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy — for his calls to fund the police in his State of the Union address. “We should all agree: The answer is not to defund the police. It’s to fund the police,” Biden said to strong applause, with cameras showing McCarthy and House Minority Whip Steve Scalise clapping and giving him a standing ovation. “Fund them. Fund them. Fund them with resources and training.” Biden touted funding from the American Rescue Plan — the pandemic relief package passed under his watch — that local governments can use to bolster police forces. Biden’s push against “defunding the police” echoes the recent stance of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who last month said that the slogan is “dead” and not Democrats’ position. The moment was a significant display of bipartisan unity in a divided Congress. Biden has long rejected the concept of defunding the police, a push from some progressive Democrats that Republicans have used frequently to attack the opposing party. The police reform movement gained momentum after George Floyd’s murder in 2020, but reform efforts have stalled in Congress. On Tuesday, Biden called on lawmakers to pass legislation requiring universal background checks and banning assault weapons, frequent calls from the president that face long odds of passing. Biden’s remarks come after Democrats’ own research recently showed that some voters in battleground districts think the party is “preachy” and “focused on culture wars,” POLITICO previously reported. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee warned that unless Democrats more vocally rebutted Republicans’ attacks on issues like defunding the police, they could lose substantial ground to the GOP in the upcoming midterm elections. Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.), one of the most vocal supporters of the push in Congress to defund the police, slammed Biden on Twitter for not mentioning “saving Black lives” in his address and repeated her calls to defund the police. In his speech Tuesday, Biden didn’t mention racial issues or a push for equity — which has been a common refrain in his administration. Last month, Pelosi specifically referred to Bush in saying that defunding the police wasn’t the party line. https://www.politico.com/news/2022/03/01/state-of-the-union-2022-fund-police-00013065
No, we do believe that Biden was chosen by God and will ascend back to the Presidency if he loses in 2024 and that the election will be fraudulent only if he loses. We don't recognize any of his failures because we know him to be a deity that is all perfect and that will usher in the end times as said in the Bible. He's the only thing standing between the Anti-Christ and the Lord Jesus Christ. If you disagree you're Satan...that's all.
These Conservative Democrats and Liberal Republicans (is that even a thing?) are the reason for the current quagmire in Congress and across the country. Pick a side or just be independent...don't act like you're something you aren't.
Every bit of respect you are due, Os. Biden is a moderate Democrat. I think "Liberal Republicans" have been extinct for decades. Joe Manchin is a corrupt S.O.B. who cares only for his bank balance. I don't know what Kyrsten Sinema is. I don't think she knows, either.
I felt the material was very smart politically and the delivery was a bit off so B overall. I didn't watch it but listened to the speech. His stumble with the delivery (a few pauses, repeat, not smooth at time, wrong pronunciation) is pretty normal and expected from him. He overcame a major speech impairment - still amazes me that someone with pretty bad stuttering early in life came this fall to deliver the SOTU. I read that it's not something that goes away completely and I'm sure he's still dealing with it.
Actually I think it will move the needle. Not much but margins make a big difference. The big takeaway I took from this speech was focused on the trying to win the middle. I think some of his calls such as criticizing Defund the Police, were triangulation of the type that Clinton did to good effect. If anything this was a message to Democrats that he will continue to pursue things like Build Back Better and voting reform but if we want to still win they need to be more focused on the middle.
Holy s***. Totally forgot about the golden fu*king statues. Who the f*ck does that if you're not in a cult?
someone complains it's MAGA! Infrastructure decade and not infrastructure week lol. There was so much he touched on. I thought he went too fast at times and I think that might be because he wanted to squeeze it into 1 hr. The speech was probably already wrote weeks ago then they have to squeeze in Ukraine at the last min. Personally, I like the approach to Covid. Right balance on handling covid going forward, especially the emphasis on new variant and being ready for it. The new plan: National COVID-19 Preparedness Plan | The White House

Let me know when the GOP has an actual plan besides "Own the Libs!" How many years did they have control to pass Healthcare reform they kept telling us they were working on. Exactly how many "infrastructure weeks" did they have and never actually having one and producing nothing? Immigration reform other than "Build the Wall!" Now the entire GOP platform is "FJB!"
