I don't know who the Team Captain is but it should be Tate. He's got the highest IQ, highest intensity on the court and most vocal. He's a shoe in for me. Has that Chris Paul chip on his shoulder. Teams need that guy to keep other guys honest. To me he should be the one keeping the rest in line starting next year.
Tate has a few things he needs to improve on no doubt. And he’s a tweener’s tweener. But he has the biggest heart and best work ethic on the team. He’s also a very good post player an defender; plays bigger than his size. I believe he can be a starter at the 3 if he improves his shooting. It’s that simple. As another poster said, he’s a 3-pt shot away from being a legit starter. Right now he’s a role player who is starting out of position and out of necessity. If he takes that next step with his shooting we have our small (small) forward and we should lock him up. But if he can’t improve his shooting he’ll be a good journeyman role player off the bench. It really comes down to how much improvement we see next year in his shooting.
Not sure why so many people on this board keep saying he’s not a starter yet he does just as much or even more than most starting 3/4 in this league like Jae Crowder, aaron gordon, randle etc. Too much effort to be a bench guy. I agree he needs a 3 pt shot to be complete and more dynamic. But Tate gives nothing but maximum effort on both ends and makes winning plays. His extra effort and tenacity is winning basketball. He is a winner. Unfortunately it’s a team game and not predicated on one man. Any team looking to win a championship looks for valuable players like him.
His lack of a 3 pt shot hurts him as a viable starter but what he lacks he makes up for on so many different areas on both sides of the ball. There’s numerous players with a better offensive game than him that starts but don’t do as much in other areas. Is Jae Crowder better than Tate? How about Julius Randle? Or Aaron Gordon? John Collins? Perhaps offensively but other areas including intangibles? This is why Tucker has been a starter for so many years despite lack of an offensive game. Only diff is Tucker’s corner 3 ability. But Tucker also hurt the Rockets and Heat with his inability to drive the ball or lack of scoring proficiency other than a 3 pt shot and the occasional baseline drive. So it’s give and take. But not having a 3 pt shot shouldn’t be a deciding criteria in not being s starter in this league. Derozan couldn’t shoot for a long time but does so many other great things. Draymond can’t shoot either. Not saying Tate is as good as these 2 but shooting is just one criteria but the overall player and his impact is evaluated.
Facts according to whom? I’d like your analysis. And read closely to what I wrote. I mentioned these players were offensively better.
common sense. being a homer doesn't change that tate has barely made it into the league being on the worst team in the league and still is. now is somehow better than guys who are established and have been meaningful contributors on teams that have actually won games
