They feel like it makes it too easy to make the playoffs so would cause teams to not spend as much. Spend only enough to get in and then take their chances

Not saying I agree, but that is their thinking

It does sound like a deal will be reached today

I mean, MLB is at 5 picks on draft lottery. Last I saw from PA is that they are at 7. I wonder if this will ever get resolved and end up, at, oh, I don't know, maybe, 6?
This is comical sometimes how silly this all works out to be. I know they have their reasons for doing it like this but it's absurd.

This is where I had it settling a week ago:

Players luxury tax jump is absurd.
    owners 50% penalty is absurd.
looks like anti tanking measures are agreed to which is a positive imo.
    minimum salaries are too low.
pool of money for pre arb guys is too low.
this is where it should end:

    $750k minimum salary.
    keep arb the same

Give the players a 100 million dollar pre arb pool and tell them to split it however the **** they want.
CBT starting at 225 and ending at 240 by the end of the negotiation with the same penalties as last time.
That’s more than fair to all stake holders. That also makes the game a little better for the fans.

get to where you are supposed to get to and sign a deal and play ****ing ball.

Glad I canceled MLBTV yesterday. Bye bye MLB, for now. Too much greed in the sport. From 10 year $350 million dollar contracts to greedy owners. Both sides are at fault. The fans get punished.

What a shame/. We've dealt with a pandemic, war, etc and now this. Both sides should be penalized BY THE FANS. Parents shouldn't have to try to explain to their kids why there is no baseball.
Fans should lock themselves out whenever MLB does start and boycott a significant amount of games.

These idiots really needed a good mediator. The differences don't seem that large, certainly not large enough to result in a stalemate with cancelled games.

    1994, here we go again...

Manfred is actually making me miss Bud Selig a little bit.

Of course it isn't ideal, based on all the back and forth of the past 3 months, it would have been more miraculous to get an agreement today/last night.

The major issue though, is that now that games are starting to be lost, it becomes less of big deal as more series are cancelled. So what is next date that forces both sides to make a similar push/effort like the past week?

I mean as long as a season happens, even if shortened -- I'm not sure it is as dire everyone is making it out to be.

Hopefully it doesn’t go this far, but my bet is that owners say there is no season if a deal is not struck by early June. 30 days of “spring training” and then season has to start by mid-July.

Now, the only way we would get to that point is if owners decide to not give another offer, and there are no further discussions. Hopefully that doesn’t happen. But we’ve already seen the parties we’re fine not talking to each other for most of December and January.

Screw ‘‘em all. They are like a bunch of kids.

I mean if the owners make that type of announcement, it is pretty much bad faith. They should want both parties back at the negotiating table within the week, but I'm not sure how they get them to do that?

Sure they may exchange proposals, but I think it will be like the prior few weeks with multiple day delays between responses. But that timeline ensures more cancelled games.

Essentially what worries me most about them stepping away was that there was no agree plan on when to meet again.

mlbtv is postponing auto-renewal and keeping 2021 subscriptions active until there is an agreement.
