Putin is just jamming the meat grinder, figuring the math is overwhelmingly on his side. Nothing smart about this. He’s just the stupid, evil butcher.
Ukrainians Target Russian Soldiers and Tanks Russians Target Ukrainian Civilians and Cars they are not the same.
I don't think this is the strategy. I think the strategy is to support via sanctions and money, and let a united Europe take the lead. A strong and united Europe will allow the US to shift focus to China.
I hate to be so blunt but lets be honest.... Putin must be dead in order to get to this point. We aren't really in the position to be brokering this deal (as are all NATO countries) because they've already put themselves in a position where there's nothing left to leverage other than NATO going to war with Russia in which Putin would say bring it on. He's already waging a war with NATO he just doesn't want to say he struck first. It'll have to be a UN coalition led by China, India, Saudi, and the UAE. The way I see this ending if it can is those countries stepping in to broker a plan to let him save face, while also bringing an end to the war with the leverage they have of completely cutting Russia out entirely. The deal I think that would work for Putin would be Crimea + Donbas + water rights + drilling rights in the sea. It allows him to say that he secured his countries future in natural gas, and Crimea gets their water supply back which was cut off when the Ukrainians damned up the rivers that feel the island with water which is a big part of this story nobody is talking about. But in order for the US to be the broker here I would think it would have to be because Putin is dead and someone like Lavrov is running the government in his place. The Putin diplomatic relationship with Europe and the US is pretty much done now IMO, and I think he knows it too.
Yes, I think that NATO nations (including the USA) should send in fighter jets to knock out the caravans entering into the heart of the Ukraine. This isn't the Cold War. Perhaps. But I would point out insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. What we have done with Putin the last 20 years has NOT worked. He invaded the Ukraine in 2014..... and now again in 2020. He went to war with the Chechens (CH/R II) He went to war in the Georgian/Russo conflict. He took the Crimea He has assassinated people in places like the UK, including non citizens. He actively intervened in the US election of 2016 after doing the same in Belarus and the Ukraine. He has so far threatened Ukraine, Sweden and Finland that they will pay the price for attempting to join NATO or the EU. He isn't going to stop until he is stopped.... and he also recently gave a speech after the invasion of the Ukraine stating that he doesn't believe that the USSR was legally ended and accordingly can legally take any prior USSR areas and blocs. So I hope the Poles have plans. He can't win? Putin is very likely to take the Ukraine.
NATO can't, its a defensive treaty. Also, if a European nation that's part of NATO attacks, and then gets attacked back, that triggers WW3 and possible nuclear death of everyone. I have fallen in love with the Ukrainian fight and I hope they win and I hope sanctions rot Russia from the inside, but you cannot risk the obliteration of the world for Ukraine, I'm sorry. A huge chunk of the world has basically decided that Russia isn't allowed to be part of the world anymore. Putin's days are numbered even if they weren't already with the theories about his Parkinson's and Cancer.
Maybe they should focus on also allowing black/Indian students studying there. I am in support of Ukraine here but their not so hidden racist and discriminatory policies are in full display
Pm I don’t want to side track this thread. I know the backgrounds of all of them as I have extended family who are all three. Your initial assessment is wrong. Next time be less arrogant. I won’t respond to you in thread further. This should be about that ******* war criminal Putin and his invasion
So what if Putin considers the Ukraine part of Russia? Hitler used the same justification at the beginning of WWII. The people of the Ukraine do not believe they are Russians and they are a separate nation and a democracy. This is the same logic Putin will use to take other former Soviet controlled areas.... he has already alluded with the legal right to do so by claiming the fracturing of the USSR was not legal. Absolutely it is a big question. I believe we are approaching that point looking at the actions of Russia and China. This also isn't going to stop.... he will go after more nations and China will likely follow suit. Ehh I wouldn't count on an insurgency like Afghanistan. They are two widely different situations. I don't see the Russian people toppling Putin. He still has strong support from the over 40 year old set of people, they tend to rely on state sanctioned television to get their information. A lot of Russia believes that the attack on the Ukraine is justified.
Yup.... and by a wider margin in the Electoral College than his first win. The reality is that Americans are sick of COVID but also the restrictions...... they are not happy with the economy.... they are not happy with the Ukraine and they are not at all happy with inflation. Short of a Christmas type miracle, Donald Trump will be re-elected as President of the USA. Now more Trump supporters will die over the next 2.5 years than Biden supporters.... but it likely won't be enough.
She's talking to that audience like they are stupid. Speaks to her low expectations for that audience's intelligence. She is so incredibly racist, but obviously gets a pass.
I Don't think you can be giving up land and rights at this point, it will just embolden other countries or Russia to do it again. Just think how this would embolden China with Taiwan or Russia with any other former Russian countries.
First off, that's only the "definition of insanity" on the internet. I don't why this bothers me, but it's one of the dumber cliches out there. Second, the response from the west in response to this is orders of magnitude different from the response in the other cases. SWIFT, armng the other side, crushing Russia's economy - these are all new things. Third, the task of invading and occupying Ukraine for decades is substantially more complicated and costly than any of those other examples. Honestly, I'm glad social media didn't exist in the Cuban Missile crisis. We'd have TikTok generals saying "Curts LeMay is right, we can survive with 50% of our current population" within minutes of the first photos being uploaded. There's a very compelling argumetn that escalating to a NATO-all Russia war is probably the best way to ensure Putin stays in power right now by rallying domestic support for him- why wouldn't you believe me? I'm a guy on the internet.
