So you think his simulations had Ukraine putting up a fierce, nationwide resistance and NATO galvanizing against Russia for the next couple of decades?

They do. They have everything they need standing by - (including ample stocks of plutonium) but the actual nuclear weapons program. I've seen estimates that they could build a prototype to test in 6 months.

I imagine American vs Japanese nukes is more about domestic politics and post WWII non-offensive weapons policies.

Alternately, a political gesture is much less expensive when someone else has to pay for and maintain it.

Reports saying Belarus troops may be gearing up to support Russian invaders. Imagine failing so hard you need Belarus to help.

Probably a lot of the same ten I have on ignore. I don't watch Fox News, and certainly don't need to see their garbage propaganda echoed in here.

Pretty sure Putin didn't see the entire collapse of the Russian economy in the course of a week.

Yes, I'm sure that was a strong possibility.

Yes, I'm sure that was a strong possibility.

I sat here and armchair quarterbacked this.

    • Attack Ukraine possible results:
      • Strong Possibilities:
        • Russian economy strongly suffers
        • Country that is attacked fights back
        • Europe and/or NATO doesn't like this and gets their **** together
        • Trump praises us
        • Fox News blames (fill in blank Democrats)
      • Not So Strong Possibilities:
        • Putin gets thank-you Russian Chocolate Salami from Ukraine

There's no deification here. Why wouldn't you leverage big data and game theory to analyze and predict outcomes? SMH

I think proving Putin to be a Paper Tiger has been a revelation for many nations in the EU. People were p***y footing around him are not going to any longer.

His military might has been exposed as untrained, weak, and antiquated. He does have nukes so he is still on the world stage, but his technology on the battlefield is 1960s level at best.

One good thing from this war in Ukraine is that the deployment of War has changed dramatically since the 20th century. An invasion back in the 1900's would've involved a ton more deaths.

If even Putin and Russia is holding back due to fear of losing public support from his own people, that's a great sign for Ukraine being able to resist this invasion.

So in your view, every single thing in the entire world's future would be predictable and no one in the world that has access to "big data" should ever be surprised by anything.

Big data primarily goes after historical patterns.

If Putin relied on that, there is no way he saw all of this coming - because his data would have been the Crimea reaction, and not this one, which is historic in punitive measures against Russia.

Big data can sku up and downwards some - generally in the 15-20% range, but rarely does it go to 200-300% range for worst case scenarios and this is far and away WORSE than ever before and by factors of 100 or more.

Ok, Putin flipped a coin and said, 'aw shucks, let's do it, who knows what will happen! '

War is now viewed real time through social media. It'll be a mitigating factor in future conflicts in nations with enough technology where everyone has a camera connected to the internet in their pocket.

Lots of intelligence people over the last few days have been on TV saying that Putin isolated himself away from even a lot of his trusted advisors over the last 2 years and possibly had no meaningful input from smart people.

You don't get into the position he's in without being ruthless and intelligent, but this was a big dumb mistake that I don't think he ever saw coming.

Lets not forget also...he's in his position because the Oligarchs put him there. They are as powerful as he is and if they decide he's not making decisions that benefit them anymore, they'll replace him.
