How does Ukraine repel the Russians and guarantee its safety without a full dismantling of the Putin government?

I just don't see Russia leaving if Putin is still in charge, or he would just gather forces and do it all again another time.

So, how does this end? If Putin goes all in, and starts carpet bombing and killing civilians (The only way to probably win, tbh) will the world stand by and let that happen? I don't think so - which means it escalates......

So, how do you end this with Putin gaining some face? Can you agree not to join NATO? I mean sure why not, then when Putin dies you join anyway.....

Or does this need to have a Russian coup where Putin is killed and someone else takes over (Better for everyone IMHO)......

I just see no way for this to end quickly - unless the Russian military steps in and takes Putin out - and refuses his orders......

Yeah but dictators compartmentalize with those loyal to them closest to them and generally isolated from others, so when one drops is the 2nd in line just as loyal? Or does that create a crack in the wall, as he might have other agendas that can fester and spread.

Dictatorships crumble from within particularly as they age, the loyalties are corrupt, and built on corrupt principals, these guys are all losing everything they had and they HAD plenty a very comfortable life......I think there must be a lot of back channel discussions about that right now in Russia.

Russia nuclear capability would survive a first strike - enough so that it could launch a devastating counter strike. Even if only 10% of its nuclear capability survived, that's still 600 nukes heading outbound - more than enough. How many of those would be targeting population centers is the question - again not a game that one really wants to play.

 

I notice that only liberals seem to be programmed. How nice it must be to drink everything up that Trump says while not being programmed.

 

Imagine got his way and killed NATO. Once Trump was gone, Putin could not just take Ukraine, but he could take back everything.

I don’t feel too bad for Finland or Sweden… they are used to being free riders and didn’t want to join NATO because of requirements for national defense spending and they didn’t want to take any firm positions on anything. So now they find themselves in a compromising position…. Stop leeching off your neighbors and the USA and join NATO.
