Eh. I’m fine with my barcode, but I could care less about the Ukraine. Germany should be the one assisting them. The US doesn’t need to play world police.
Okay, another of millions of twitter accounts I'll never need to follow. But my annoyance at dumb twitter accounts and hackneyed "sheeple" narratives notwithstanding: If people sympathize with Ukraine, warts and all, being invaded without any obvious provocation, by a much larger military from a neighbor, tell us please, what are they missing? IF this is some wide-ranging conspiracy to control our minds, why are BBC, DW, AP, AFP, Al freaking Jazeera, et alia, all pretty much in lockstep in just reporting the events and probable motivations of Putin?
He is balancing a lot of things, not just winning the war but also trying to save civilians and the infrastructure in his country. I am not optimistic of a peace settlement. Putin has to have control of the Ukraine after the size of the financial and political capital commitment he has made. He would be at risk of losing his power in Russia if he comes back. Russia will take the Ukraine unless he makes a strategic mistake and European countries or the US send in troops. He has 70,000 crack soldiers coming from his Muslim Russians coming into the Ukraine and he also has troops from Belarus willing to fight for him. They are close to the border. It’s possible both leaders want a limited ceasefire. For the Ukrainian President he gets to train civilians with the hardware received and he gets to continue trying to get more ammunition and possibly soldiers on the ground from another country. He also is appealing to mercenaries and anyone that wants to fight with him. For Putin, he gets to regroup and attempt to get financing or covert support from that festering sore on the world, the CCP. It’s a game of chicken… Putin can and will take the Ukraine but the cost for him thus far is likely far more than he expected. I suspect he wishes he had done this while the USA was in Afghanistan.
That is a major commitment and they will have a top 3-4 military if they keep their budget at that level the next 10 years. Only the USA and China spend more than that. It’s half what China spends and like 15% of what we spend. FWIW I think it is smart of Germany. The USA needs to continue strengthening ties with Germany.

How so? Armed citizens have very little to do with it. Do you know the gun laws in the Ukraine before it was declared a national emergency? 40,000 Americans die in gun violence each year. That’s over 80,000 Americans since 9-11. As for nationalism, this war was STARTED over nationalism by a far right dictator. I get sick of the far left but these senseless and WRONG one liners thrown out by the far right are nauseating.
i dont see how any of those 3 are mutually exclusive. if you want to talk about "reprogramming" though, ill point out again that republicans (party of reagan) have been pro-putin since trump came along. republicans were also pro-interventionist before trump single-handedly turned them into isolationists. trump also turned the GOP into the anti-bush party. 20 years ago yall were cheerleading for invading iraq and then trump came along and said it was the biggest foreign policy mistake in united states history (he was right) and yall suddenly became anti-interventionists. just this week trump praised putin and said we should be doing the same in mexico. and he remains the leading candidate for the GOP in 2024.

Interesting point -- getting America to join WW2 is whole different kettle of fish. It was not easy, and you can even learn of us turning away boatloads of fleeing jews while trying to stay out of the war. I can only imagine what it would have been like with an internet at the time. Yikes.
