If the PRC is openly supporting Russia in this there will be blowback. At the minimum it will lead to more calls to sanction the PRC over their support of Russia.
Nuclear weapons be damned -- I do not understand how this invasion does not lead to a Gulf War type response. The most optimal outcome would be dismantling the Russian nuclear state.
It is like in your mind it all about some bs Risk or Geopolitical abstraction game and there is no difference between a small war and a large one with hundreds of thousands or millions of deaths. This is the type of nutty abstraction crap that led 90% of the folks on this forum to support Dubya's Iraq war. It is disgusting to see the millionaire comfortable hosts on CNN and MSNBC blathering on about the need to send small arms to Ukraine so more folks can be killed. Sanction the hsit out of Russia, but do not try to punish or bleed Russia by having a prolonged war that will end in many many more Ukrainian deaths, who you allegedly love so much than deaths of Russians.
Because sane people don't want a nuclear war and Putin has already threatened to use nukes and he doesn't seem to be mentally stable right now.
This is like WMD’s in Iraq with actual WMD’s… and Sadam invading a country much larger than Kuwait. If invading Iraq because of WMD was worth our involvement it’s crazy to think that this situation is not. Not saying I want us to attack Moscow but I think it’s a worthwhile debate. I mean we are already not even hiding MILITARY support and lying that it’s just humanitarian. We are very very close to being hard to deny we are already in an armed conflict at some level. My gut reaction though is that the risk assessment is just too high that Putin will launch a nuke if his back is truly against the wall and he knows he’s lost. I don’t see someone that won’t want to take the world down with him. I see very little humanity left in this shell of a human.
Not part of their current plan. They are looking for regime change, not Grozny Part ii. If they wanted to level cities, it could have been done already.
Except that sanctions also are meant to punish and bleed Russia. This sounds like simplistic rhetoric falling back on old ideological tropes. CNN or MSNBC didn't cause Russia to invade Ukraine. Russians shouldn't die over Ukraine but Ukrainians also shouldn't die over Russia. You're arguments only make sense if we ignore the fact that this is a war of aggression by Russia.
No chance we can have open warfare with Russia unless we have some technology / intelligence to guarantee we can stop all nuclear launches. Attacks must be economic and cyber to force the Russia people to overthrow the government. That is the only way.
I think it is very far fetched to believe that we will militarily attack Moscow. I think it's also highly unlikely that Russia will use nukes. Putin isn't necessarily rational but use of nukes is downright suicidal and I don't think he's suicidal. At the same time I don't think there is much support for us to get in a shooting war with Russia over Ukraine. Biden certainly knows that and is why he's said repeatedly that he's not committing US troops.
You would think after this week people would abandon the cartoonish perception of autocrats like Xi and Putin as geopolitical chess grandmasters, rather than garden variety strongmen who inherited nuclear arsenals. Yeah maybe in the 60's this would have been true but longtime rival was definitely not the way this went down - Beijing threw in with Moscow early on and it's not exactly working out for them.
As best I can tell, and from the minimal info posted, that's a Hercules (C130-J) transport airplane, not an AC130 gunship. Also, and again given the minimal info posted, you can't tell what country that belongs to.
Did I say that? Do you have reading comprehension? I said it’s worth debating ala a risk assessment like we did with Sadam and WMD. If you actually can read full sentences you’ll see how the conclusion is a much too high risk he’ll nuke his way out of a corner when he’s lost. Before coming in hot with insults… maybe learn to read.
The longer the Russians are bogged down the more expensive it will get for Russia and the less likely their troops will continue to follow orders. Already we hear that they are breaking into houses looking for food because they are out, their columns are getting ambushed, they are short on ammo, they are losing tanks left and right. If the Ukranian resistence can keep fighting for every inch it will force them to the bargaining table and an end to this. Our best case situation is that Putin may have overplayed his hand and it cost him his position.....one can only hope. DD
Hard to believe Trump tried to use Ukranian military aid for political favors. That aid could very well be what is making the difference right now. What a **** show that presidency was.
