    I don't see how this is anything but a win for China.

    False choice. If we promoted oil & gas production in this country, we wouldn't be in this position. Energy independence is the solution. Obviously the Democrats have opposed this for years, instead focusing on their climate change fantasies and ESG dreams.

    Maybe we should make Putin pay, like Hitler. Let him send his army out, bomb their military infrastructure and take over the Kremlin.

    I kid, I kid.

    Chaos among the West certainly helps the PRC and the non aggression pact that Xi negotiated with Putin helps. Plus the PRC will sell more goods and get more energy out of Russia.

    The problem is that fully backing Putin doesn’t look good even for Xi and jeopardizes business with other trading partners. While Xi is an authoritarian and probably could care less what happens to Ukraine if things don’t go well, and at the moment they aren’t going as well as Putin planned, it will be a very bad look for Xi.

    That’s why I think in the UNSC they just abstained rather than vote no. Also why the rhetoric regarding what’s happening in the Ukraine is rather muted from the PRC.

    Hope it's true what he says. It's hard to know how much of this is intended to not let Ukrainians lose faith and to weaken morale of Russians.

    This is so incorrect it's laughable. US energy companies are sitting on countless permits to drill but they don't. Small cap energy producers stopped not because of regulations but because the Russians and Saudis tanked the price of oil. Trump did try to save them by asking them to cut production and they stabilized the price but it was too little too late - they went kaput.

    We promote oil and gas like crazy in this country - you have no idea how well the big energy companies have it, and you have no idea why fracking went away.

    But US energy is getting back on track because of why? High oil prices!!

    Let me explain something to you. This is America - a capitalist system based on markets. Business succeed and fail based on these markets - not with your wannabe socialist gov't policy objectives trying to control things! I knew you were commrade all along.

    COVID = Anti China
    Ukraine = Anti Russia

    Trump = Anti China
    Biden = Anti Russia

    Russia + China = Allies

    Before February, everyone in this thread has been very vocal and fully certified COVID experts. This month, you are all now geopolitical experts and fully certified Ukraine/Russia experts.

    Its amazing how Americans can be so easily distracted.

    After November 8th, 2022, everyone in this thread will become macro economics experts ready to blame the Republican led 2023/2024 congress for the next 2 years of economic calamity.

    Germany needs to find its gonads, start rebuilding their military back up, and pay their 2% share when it comes to NATO. I don't understand why they shut down their nuclear plants that provided energy to them to just purchase it from Russia instead.

    Take the shackles of Japan too while we're at it to counteract China.

    Again, if you haven't learned by now that TJ, an objectively intelligent human, is disingenuously posting things he knows to be false for the purpose of advancing his political ideals and aggravating those who disagree...well, I can't help you.

    Given the importance of "losing face" in China, inviting Putin over and signing a best buddies treaty right before the Olympics and his telegraphed invasion and then seeing him become an international pariah after launching said invasion, and even worse, having the invasion sputter and having the NATO countries reinvigorated - I can't think of a worse outcome for China.

    Interesting to see what the "hey, it could happen here" sentiment will be in the region.
