Don't you think this will lead to direct confrontation between the United States and Russia?

Do you really think NATO would ever consider enforcing a no fly zone above Ukraine? Russia would take some kind of retaliatory action, possibly launching something along the lines of a missile strike against a NATO base.

I don't think there is an easy answer to any of it, but no I don't.... I am not sure that Russia is in a position to really do much at this point..... but this assumes that Putin isn't senile or losing his edge, and I am not privy to that information.

I am not overly concerned with whether NATO would consider enforcing a no fly zone honestly. Russia has aggressively entered into another nation, a nation that is not in NATO but has under the articles preferred status amongst non NATO members.... Russia is the aggressor and has made threats to other nations. NATO and the USA can grow a pair or continue watching what is happening.... and deal with Putin going after other non-NATO nations in the region or possibly even attack Poland.

This doesn't end with Putin taking back the Ukraine..... he will go for more at some point.

More intriguing is this interview last year - he doesn't seem sick, but he does seem like a pathological liar.

I disagree. There are NATO forces everywhere else but Moldova. Where will he go next in Europe? Any action he takes would immediate put NATO forces in a fire fight with Russia forces. He knows he can't win that.

We can't fire on Russia for the same reason Russia can't fire on NATO. Nukes. We can supply the Ukrainians weapons, we can give them know how, we can give them intelligence, but we can not fight their war for them. We can't get into an offensive fire fight with Russia. It's simply not worth the risk of escalating this into a war that could kill millions and millions of people.

He is probably the best Republican congressman. Only Kinzinger and Liz Cheney stepped up to be on the Jan 6 committee. And he is one of the few Republicans that calls out the crazies that are taking over their party.

I respect your position but I am not 100% convinced that the countries in NATO would go to a ground war even if Russia went into Poland. Finland is not in NATO either..... there is Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia as well that are there. They are NATO members I believe.

That is pretty obvious - maybe one day you can get an education and learn about not just caring about your own self interest.

Finland has a much better relationship with Russia than Ukraine and has been non-aligned for a while. Now, it is true Putin recently made a vague threat about Finland/Sweden joining NATO in response to the Finish PM saying that topic would get more discussion - a mistake on her part.

But nevertheless, Russia would be crazy to invade Finland considering how hard the terrain is to advance and that Finland has a capable army that is well trained. I doubt Finland becomes a target unless it moves towards joining NATO or takes too strong an anti-Russian position. Even then it's a desperate target for Putin as it would likely be crossing a line.

As for the Baltic states and Poland - all are NATO members. Sure maybe some member states would lose resolve if Russia invaded, but SOME would take their oath seriously and counter Russian advances, pulling all NATO members into the war anyway. Putin has to understand this. He won't test it. Because if he does, there is simply no way NATO can not respond because if it doesn't, then NATO ceases to exist as an alliance and Europe becomes a free for all.

But the other thing is that Russia just doesn't have the capability to really wage a long term war into multiple countries. It's army isn't what it used to be. It's struggling to capture Kiev and moral can not be that high given the Russia people know it's essentially them against the world. No one is supporting Putin except for Trump. China isn't supporting them, and even the country that should be super loyal to Russia which is India, isn't even backing them. We're talking India - Russia practically funds their entire military to fight off Pakistan and China.
