Green, right now is a net negative on the floor......for this team, but as Sam has pointed out, he is developing so who cares. DD
Well yeah, I mean, Green is one of the worst players in the league, ANY team would struggle if they had to put him on the court. The hope is that in a year or two, he becomes a break even type player....maybe even a slight net positive. I don't think there's really a need to stagger Porter and Green's minutes so much as Green simply does not deserve many minutes at this point. If Green becomes a better player, they'll compliment each other. The only reason some are trying to pretend otherwise is that they want to blame KPJ for Green being terrible at basketball.
Problem I see is most of the time if Green can't drive by his defender he's mostly just spot up shooter. They didn't get him involve more on offense. Mathews got the green light to jack up the three whenever he touches the ball. Even Brooks is jacking the up. I just think if they would get him involve more in as slasher it would help his confident. Usually when his first few shots not falling he pretty much suck throughout the game. Hate to waste the #2 pick like this. I know it's only the first year. We aren't winning. Might as well try to mix thing up. Better than just playing pickup basketball.
The difference of course is that Mathews and Brooks can shoot. Jalen Green can be streaky, but he's nowhere near a good or even competent shooter. Right now his only value is slashing when the defense isn't set such as in transition and hoping he gets fouled or that he makes it completely past every defender.....or hoping it just happens to be a hot shooting night. Since Green isn't a ball handler and isn't a shooter, there's just not a lot more you can do for him than they already are. As it is they are force feeding this scrub minutes and shot attempts. If they were going off of his ability alone, he'd probably see the court 10-12 minutes a game right now. He's still young, so there's hope one day he develops his shot and figures out how to finish better in traffic, but right now he's like an anchor on the neck of the entire team every second he is on the court. He makes the team worse on both sides of the ball, which is impressive. I hate that we wasted the #2 pick too, but I hate even more that we are allowing the fact that we wasted the #2 pick along with the GM's incompetence at the trade deadline to hamper the development of other young players on the roster. Green was drafted largely due to fooling stupid people with mediocre performances in the G league.....well we have a G league guard who is performing WAY better than Green ever dreamed of.....why not give him some burn, see what he's capable of rather than wasting minutes on a vet with no future with the team like Schroder? Why not make sure Josh Christopher gets time? Right now, he's better overall than Green, but he often struggles to see the court at all. Why is Wood still on the damn team? Why isn't Sengun starting? There's 1000 things the Rockets are screwing up right now. The least of their concerns is Jalen Green getting featured even more than he already is.
Does KJ have greenlight to slash? Because KJ is one of best slashers on team and he knows his role is to be effort guy/garbage man and continually move off ball. But KJ is more natural and effective slasher because he does not shy away from contact.
Please dont us fg% is terrible. For context. 60% of Cades shots are from 2 in which he shoots only .436% while he shoots .322% from 3 for an .455 efg% and a .487 ts%. Vs 50% of Jalens shots come from 2 where he shoots .462% while he shoots .311% from 3 for an .464 efg% and a .516 ts%. For all of greens struggles he's still been much more efficient than Cade. Id like to see green get closer to Cades 60/40 shot distribution than his current 50/50 which would further improve his efficiency. Also, Cade has many other talents to make up for this so its not like hes crap either. But Green is more efficient than Cade already
Another problem I had is when someone is posting up in the paint and someone slash and bring his defender to double team whoever is posting up. There is no play everything is free motion. Players don't know what each other will do.
Don’t make me go bobbythegreat on you. I have been watching Green and Cade’s shooting. Hoping that Green passes him up. Sorry for posting about it.
He's just saying raw fg% is junk because it doesn't account for type of shots. Green is a more efficient scorer than Cade flat out so far in their limited NBA career so far. No ifs and or buts. 3-4% difference in true shooting is significant.
Is that supposed to be some type of negative? A 19-20 year old who can draw more fouls than his rookie rival bodes well for him. Getting to the line is part of scoring efficiency. It's how Harden was efficient. The fact that he can get to the line better is a positive for Green in relation to Cade. Not only that; drawing fouls is a sustainable skill rather than a stretch of hot shooting.
We have enough Bobby on this board, please dont. I was just saying don't use fg% as it sucks and doesn't tell the story. Then told the story.
He has a higher efg% as well, and if Green had a similar shot distribution to Cades 60/40, it would be even significantly better.
It's pointless trying. Green could go on a 20/4/4 run for the rest of the season and they'll still call him a bust. These people have made their mind up already. Before the draft.
I'd love to see it. What's sad is that the opposite is true. He could continue being the most detrimental player to the team and arguably the worst rookie in the class and his ridiculous cult would still call him Kobe. The mindless zealots who foam at the mouth at those who don't worship Jalen Green don't care about how he actually plays, their love is unconditional.
It's fine for them to have their opinion IMO. He hasn't been great and a lot of analytics back that up. He has been getting better and he has been improving. He has a lot of potential still. I wish people could be less extreme in opinions and more fluid in discussion. But it's hard when the Mobley crew didn't get Mobley and Mobley had looked amazing. It's launched them in to full panic/frustration mode, instead of being more patient. Where the green crew can match the extremes in the polar opposite to defend their teams player.
I'm happy to criticise Green for his shortcomings, he's got many. What I can't condone is people flat out calling him a bust when he's shown plenty of potential, and I REALLY can't condone the people actively rooting for him to fail. Fake ass fans, all of them.
I understand that. I have just been personally following that (straight fg%) At one point Cade was had quite a large margin. It is nice to see Green is only .3% behind him now. I didnt think that would happen.
I am not a Cade guy but what is he supposed to do? Run an Offense and a team, defend and make half of his shots as a rookie while Green is only there for the scoring?
On the other hand, KPJ could quit on his team at halftime, commit dozens of questionable turnovers and lazy plays, struggle to be a PG, and bobby the fanboy would still act like he has superstar potential and better than a vet like Dennis Shroder.
