I don’t understand why he keeps getting asked about it. John Wall negotiated a player option in his last contract. He did that so that he could become a free agent a year early if he’s unhappy with his current situation. If Wall is unhappy with his situation (which was partly created by him since he did not want to come off the bench for a rebuilding team that wanted to play a young PG), then he will opt out this summer. What is there to ask Silver about? It’s a pretty standard deal.

interesting. I think it’s clear that the Lake show is unlikely to be a trade partner for Wall with stretching that last year of Russ’ contract looking like their best move.

but now that Wall is an expiring max contract, there will be opportunities to acquire more assets if we are willing to take back some salary. If our strategy is all about 2023 free agency then it’s likely we get dejavu next year with Wall sitting out the season again waiting for his contract to simply expire.

We’ll go ahead and put this in the “no sh*t” file.

No one is trading for his contract, and he is not going to opt out of generational wealth......weird situation....but here we are.....

If he wanted to help he could have really helped off the bench this year...

Wall is young enough to have gotten another super max deal if he had not been injured and was still a decent player, he is not. He lost $200M+ in what would have been another contract, instead he will likely be getting paid the min the rest of his career. I do not understand why people think he will opt out of $44M+ when he has already lost $200M+.

For the record, I don’t think he will opt out. I don’t even think he should. I wouldn’t. But the portrayal of him as some sort of trapped victim is inaccurate. He does have the option to move on if he so chooses.

I TRULY think Wall can be the person that can mend the team together —> if and only if he buys into the plan. He has the skills to be a CP3 on the Suns type, the fading all star turned into a competent hand surrounded by young talent. Pulling the TEAM through if NEEDED but mostly just governing the team. A true system and different coaching philosophies would be needed. With the ownership we have and knowing no one would leave that kind of money behind in a buyout. Why not try it because it saves the organization money, helps the organization and all the players. Once again if Wall buys in.

Wall is not a good player anymore. Even before injuries he was more Westbrick than CP3 in his impact.

So was cp3 until he found his role. No longer the all star but a competent hand that can still can turn it on if needed. The young talent is the heart of the team. NOT him. He needs to buy in.

The $$ is not the point.

If he wants to play basketball next year, he can opt out and sign with any team of his choosing at whatever price (a) they can afford and (b) he can negotiate.
If he wants to take up his p/o AND play basketball... well... that isn't an option in Houston. So we will happily trade him without taking back worse contracts, OR if compensated accordingly.

I don't think anyone begrudged him the money. But he needs to accept that it is his retirement fund and that he won't play NBA next season if he takes the p/o

You don’t remember the last year he was Rocket. It was more than ugly.

    1. Wall makes the money he does not deserve.
    2. Washington willingly gave him the contract.
    3. Houston willingly traded for him.
Nobody is a victim. It's just how the NBA CBA works.

Wall needs to find his priority. Does he want to keep the guaranteed money for one more season, or does he want to play and prove that he can still be a productive basketball player? I think if he opts out, most teams will probably offer a one year lowball deal to test how he can play. If he is healthy and be a competent starter, he will get a better deal next.

He gave himself a choice, now it's his choice to make. Rot and get paid or play for a legacy.

Ugly, I see a similar record in a shortened season. 17-55 (72 game season)

    There is not much difference.

Just checked to see if something new had come up with the situation since October or whenever. No.

There's not a chance in hell he hasn't done the math. Starting with that 47 million player option is going to fill his bank account more than any combo of veteran minimums/prove-it contracts and possibly landing a MLE contract.

LA ready to quit fkng around with Westbrook? Washington wants him back?

    COME. AND. TAKE. HIM.

I'd take a 3rd round pick for him but I just don't want to see the Rockets extend their bad money beyond Wall's contract/2023. We've weathered the storm. Good god what this team might be if 1/3rd of it's salary cap isn't pouting it's way through multiple seasons.

At this point, it's going to be them unloading him for a star player looking to jump ship or just wait until the trade deadline to waive him. Taking on long term contracts just to get future picks is not appealing to me at this point.
