My gosh... you don't even have the correct year (when the US exports exceeded imports). But even that didn't equate to energy independence.

Y'all are both idiots. Typical example of people so behind in the race intellectually they actually think they're leading.

In early December 2018, it was reported that the US had turned into a net exporter of oil "last week", thus breaking nearly 75 continuous years of dependence on foreign oil. Reportedly, the US sold overseas a net of 211,000 barrels a day of crude and refined products such as gasoline and diesel. This, compared to net imports of about three million barrels a day on average previously during 2018 and the prior annual peak of more than 12 million barrels a day during 2005, was confirmed by the US Energy Information Administration.[34]

I mean, if it were true energy independence, then once achieved, we wouldn't necessarily fall back to crazy trade deficits...the mechanisms in place to buffer price shocks would be there.

****, its not like the government banned fracking either. They flourished when oil sold at a more expensive price, then tanked when their margins couldn't hang with lower prices that cheaper wells could sustain... or like when covid began, Russia and the cartels torpedoed our businesses by flooding supply in the middle of a shutdown.

That's not "energy independence" at all. Just some mindless sloganeering wrapped up in a corporate feelgood package.

And who approved the LNG export terminals and new refineries to export petro chemicals?

Obama and Biden. That infrastructure didn't just get planned, approved, and built within 2016-2018.

Even if that was true, which is doubtful as there are many other factors such as increased demand coming out of the pandemic, it would take a lot of time for new domestic drilling and especially exploration to get new oil to affect prices.

No, it affects prices very quickly, especially futures.

Lol no. That would imply a company like Ford saying they will cease all ICE development in 5 years would have effect in current oil pricing.

It definitely doesn't work that way. That would imply oil prices should be dropping now because so many automotive companies as we speak are discussing completely haulting any future development of IC engines.

As a Texan pragmatist, I think it would be prudent for the Biden admin to restart the Build Back Better plan but to focus on niche supply chains (developing more domestic rare earth mines), hard climate change infrastructure (reservoirs, dams, seawalls, buffer islands, etc), environmental remediation (rust belt super fund sites and rehabbing coal stripped mountains) and energy production (pretty much everything but coal).

It seems like such low hanging fruit to invest in..... the windy areas produce wind energy, sunny areas produce solar energy, gasy areas produce gas, etc. Just tighten some emission and waste disposal regulations on the O&G industry in exchange for more stability.

I can't defend the O&G industry's actions over climate change and its involvement in denialism, but it's just not prudent to cut off your nose to spite your face.

Over the years, Russia's interests coincide more and more with Republicans who are pro O&G (and its consequences), pro ethnic nationalism, and a host of repugnant attitudes they feel proud of.

O&G is very international and very transactional. The interests could be more aligned with increased production in friendlier regions such as North America, Australia, and Northern European. Same with precious metals and rare earth metals.

My larger point was needing to find some sort of compromise for a bill to invest significantly in green energy and hardening infrastructure because the Democrats can't do it by alienating natural gas and oil.

Psycho take? Maybe the observation is hitting you harder than you'd like to admit.

Here's another hot take for you. Republicans and their proxy groups will feed off the russia lovin trough Trump urinates into.

NRA Was 'Foreign Asset' To Russia Ahead of 2016, New Senate Report Reveals

It was a explicit interest expressed by Butina: In one 2015 email to an NRA employee, Butina wrote, "is there a list of U.S. governors or members of Congress that might be present at some time during the [NRA] annual meeting?"

The employee responded with a list.

The NRA also helped them forge connections with groups such as the Council for National Policy, the National Prayer Breakfast, the National Sporting Goods Wholesalers Association and Safari Club International.
