You have to know that's a moronic take. You simply can't compare the raw stats of a player that played a more proper role for a raw rookie to one that has been force fed minutes and shot attempts. When it comes to overall quality, it's about equal with Brewer being a bit better due to being a plus defender. It'll be okay, one of these days a few years from now Jalen Green might actually be somewhere close to as good as you think he is right now. Till then, you just keep digging the hole deeper.
Ts% is a raw stat? It's a efficiency stat. And Jalen Green could score 20% more efficiently on more double the pt production 2 years younger than rookie Brewer. And I'm sure you understand if you consider that same talent level rookie Brewer and expanded his attempts to Green's, that 42% ts would plummet to true shooting percentages that are unheard of. Anyways I'm pretty sure even the most die hard anti-Green folks would laugh at your take in regards to Brewer and Green so I'm assuming this is bait and you got me reeled in. So I guess you got your dopamine hit.
SMH, I kind of assumed you'd fundamentally fail to understand what I was telling you, and you didn't disappoint. It's alright guy, just keep doing your thing and we'll keep laughing at you. I assume one of these days you'll figure out how ridiculous you're being and hopefully you'll realize that you should be embarrassed. Clearly your love for the most disappointing player in the current rookie class is truly blind and that's a beautiful thing I guess.
Green won't average 17 ppg on 60% TS% for the last 28 games. When that does not happen, then what will be the next excuse? The 8 game number is arbitrarily picked because his last 8 games have 60% TS%. But his last 12 games (4+those 8 games)? 51.4% TS% Oct TS 43.5% November 53.2% Dec 66.7% Feb 60.4% But that doesn't tell the whole story: Jan TS 45.7% AND Oct 6 games, Nov 12 games Dec 3 games Feb 8 games Jan 14 games 32 game sample with a bad TS% and 11 games sample with a great one Green has not shown consistency in shooting, that's his biggest knock for offense. As many have said (me included), it's the 3 point shooting that will make or break him. 6 of his last 8 games he's shot great from 3. If that's just hot shooting and that dips again then his TS% drops big time. This post does not address defense, +/-, or contributing in ways other than scoring (rebounds, assists, etc). He needs to show he's valuable consistently on offense first. Worry about the other stuff later.
This is a fair and reasonable take. although, I really wish people would stop using +/- as it's a terrible stat for an individual especially on such a terrible team. Truth is tho, a lot of greens efficiency comes from his 3pt shooting which accounts for nearly 50% of his shot selection. Being half of his attempts come from distance where he is inconsistent I'd like to see this drop to closer to 35-40% of his attempts. I'd like to see a higher volume of drives but it's hard when we have terrible spacing combined with Jalen not being the best when the paint is clogged after beating his man. None the less, Jalen has been improving a lot along the way and that's encouraging. He's not Kobe and he's not Corey brewer. Why is both sides so extreme?
I agree that Jalen's three point shooting is the reason for his better efficiency. this could be a hot streak, this might not. A greater sample size is necessary. I wish that he wasn't so dependent on his three point jumper right now. A guy this dependent on his jumper better be an elite shooter, which Jalen has not shown to be. He's still, way better than Corey Brewer was as a rookie and projects to be better than him. Only a moron would compare the two players. Zach Lavine is an appropriate comp for Green.
cade is now shooting .3% better than Green now as well. I hope he finishes the season out on a high note. Get his shooting up to 41% or so maybe?
Which % is this? Because his shooting is terrible. It's the weakest asset to his game. His ts% will be salvaged a bunch, by the 4 FTs in garbage time he was gifted.
deMar deRozan went from a raw prospect to a 28 PPG MVP candidate on work ethic. A work ethic that Jalen Green apparently has...
So you think he'll raise his ppg all the way to 20 ppg? I'm not willing to go that far but I do like your confidence.
There's something about Jalen Green that inspires some crazily hyperbolic takes--both for and against. I'm just hoping he can finish off the season averaging what I had predicted in the post-draft thread: 17/3/3 on above-average efficiency. And if he can't it's fine, he just needs to put in the work during the offseason. Regardless of what Cade Cunningham, Cuttino Mobley, Josh Giddey or Franz Wagner are doing the player that we have is Jalen Green. So I'll be rooting nonstop for his progress and hoping that he can meet the wildest of expectations.
We really don't need to dump on other rookies that are struggling. All rookies struggle and some are more ready than others but you don't pick based on readiness. That's not a smart approach. I know there are posters who make it seem like the other rookies are already perfect, but they are all heavily working on their games. I just believe Jalen will always outwork them and thus outpace them by the time he's 23ish. Can you imagine Green's raw energy/athleticism/firststep molded into an efficient scorer and plus defender? It's like getting a taller skinnier Westbrook at age 19 and having the chance to mold his game properly instead of focusing on mid range, highlights and rebounds.
Sounds like he had a typical Jalen Green performance. Barely cracks double digits AND loss. Oh wait, Mobley had 8 boards too. We know that Green doesnt rebound worth a damn.
Very crazy. Spoiler (Although I know OP wants it to be that way) Take a glimpse at the Sengün and Christopher threads and look at this bustling one. Night and day. Night and day.
I'm hoping that those threads eventually generate almost as much discourse as this one, though realistically they most definitely won't. Just the fact that we're talking about these young players, projecting their futures and arguing means that we're passionate about the team. Last year the atmosphere was totally different--it seemed as if the life had drained from the Rockets, the fanbase, everything. So I think all this hubbub is, ultimately, exactly what we need.
That's right ! Don't go by stats, go by what I am telling you is right!!! Best argument ever l! Also if anything green should be given more shots, he is by no means force fed shots. When your 2 for 4 from 3 then you should shoot a few more 3s that game. You are also absolutely correct in a few years green will get to be as good as we think he can be, for now he is showing positive signs.
