Don't be so sure that there will be a guerilla style war. It most likely would be a civil war, and the separatists in Ukraine won't occupy the same way - they will be brutal. They will track down and imprison enemies. They will murder and make your entire family disappear if you are even suspected of being sympathetic with the west.
Truthfully there is nothing we could do to stop Putin if we weren't going to use military force. I've heard people like Mike McFaul saying we should have arming Ukraine even heavier further back, but that would just have caused Putin to escalate faster. This was inevitable. I saw posts making fun of Joe Biden's age. I saw more posts about "f***ing libs" and one that made up dumbass stats about cost of living going up 50% because of Biden. Not sure what forum you're reading from today. I saw many posts discussing calmly what's happening and why. Yes, there are disagreements. My issue is with those that think the world automatically fell to s*** on Jan 20th, 2021 and neglecting to see the obvious that much of the problems today were put in motion well before that. it is a problem that the former President of the United States is PUBLICLY aligning himself with Putin. If Biden had done nothing different other than having an "R" next to his name, you would be praising him. This is the practical reality today. This is why people who laugh at Chamberlain's peace in our time stuff are missing a big part of historical context. Just like us with Ukraine, when Chamberlain was allowing the Anschluss, allowing the taking of the Sudentenland, etc. he was dealing with a world in which the two major powers who could oppose Hitler were deathly afraid of asking another generation to go die in a war. What is Biden (or Trump, or Obama, etc.) supposed to do to China and Russia when they do stuff like this? Send 1 million American boys to go fight and die?
