The severe lack of quality public basketball courts around this city is disgusting

On the other hand, I can't throw a rock without hitting a beautifully maintained tennis court

What is with the disdain against hoopers?

I made it rain so much Turner had to close all the parks due to flooding.

Alot of parks got shutdown after Katrina. My favorite blacktop was at Doss park between to baseball fields. Evacuees from NO were very aggressive, it led to them shooting at the regulars over a game.

There are courts in my neighborhood in Cypress. I'll tell you exactly where if you promise to be my friend.

That's where I moved, haven't played in a while, am finally getting back into it, but I'm only interested in outdoor courts right now. I found 2 within 15-minute drives of my house by scouring google maps satellite imagery for an hour.

While doing so I found out how insanely rare outdoor courts are across the city in comparison to other sporting courts and fields, this can't be by accident. Basketball is the most commonly played sport in the country, there is no reason publically accessible courts at parks shouldn't be more common... outside of my conspiracy that it's to prevent a certain demographic from gathering.

It's dangerous to have too many fast twitch muscles in one place.

@Behad's indoor court was the best, true shooting experience, no environmental factors

Ironically I was thinking a couple of days ago about how many kids I grew up with played basketball in my driveway because we had a goal. I was 8 when my father put it up. We set it I'm concrete. It was 39 years ago. It's still standing.

Now you see basketball goals everywhere because they can be set up anywhere and moved. I don't know how many kids still go to parks to play ball but I'm sure not as many. I never went to the park but when I left UT and came home I missed playing full court ball at UT. UofH's gym sucked and I started playing at the park.

didn't know breh had his own court. fire.

nothing beat the short rims the brehs played in the mid 2000s. they actually had nets too! pretty sure i blocked @moes @ClutchCityReturns @Kam @Dave2000 @Raven @OmegaSupreme @finalsbound plenty of times too.

That sounds anecdotal as f---, also you'd probably get rid of more east and south Asians than blacks, like if they banned breakdancing or pool at U of H.

Suburbs have a notorious lack of decent courts for hoops. Jersey Village was a f**king island if you want to get a run going.

Growing up in the heights we had a plentiful selection, still do for the most part. The community centers seem to run tighter hours these days, or maybe I'm just working and have less free time. 2 of the parks eliminated the full courts in favor of these weird half courts. Jaycee Park has a damn circular court with the hoops in the middle now.

I worked as a general labor for Houston Parks and Recreation 3 years ago. It was a seasonal job basically cutting grass. I have no insight on their decision making just saying

So I posted earlier I started going to parks to play in college, it was the mid to late nineties. I used to play at a city park that had a recreation center next to the court. People would have family reunions there

The city took the rims down because guys would be arguing loudly and they didn't want that around the rec center. I would say the decision was justified but I didn't see any fights but maybe there were some. I don't remember exactly

A few years ago my older son was in a baseball tournament there. They had just shut down the courts because of the shootings that were occuring there. I did not realize that was happening. The folks who live around there were telling us about it. At the time the baseball fields at Doss were not bad

In my neighborhood I grew up in Fondren Southwest.... the rims didn't last too long.

We got more parks, but not basketball courts.

Even the indoor courts I frequented died hard after Covid and never really recovered.
