Are you saying Hitler or Saddam represented Democratic values? Not long after Hitler "was elected" he got rid of his political competition with extrajudicial executions.

You can't justify authoritarians - people in those countries always have inferior life-satisfaction. And in order to defend said life satisfaction, Democracies have to protect their interests from authoritarians' (like Putin) efforts to sabotage democracies, which dictators try to do so as to ensure that people they control don't smarten up

Actually, Trump was the one bending over to Putin and Xi Jinping.

Facts are merely a minor inconvenience for @basso

I'm not hearing any suggestions about what we do. It's one thing to say such things. It's another to propose solutions or demand certain actions.

Under Obama the Russians took over the Crimea. Under Biden, the Russians are taking over more of Ukraine. Under Trump, the Russians did not even posit a gesture in this sort of a direction.

Who are the lackies of Putin? The facts on the ground speak loud and clear.

But if you don't propose a solution, it's much easier to criticize whatever they do.

yes, I thought of you too when she said that. you are on the same page with Pelosi - do you feel yucky?
if you are right and ww3 starts, I'll eat my hat - not that it will matter cause it means I'll have to have survived a nuclear strike or two and then gotten conscripted to serve. all because Biden didn't properly threaten the big bad russian bear.

If WWIII starts, nobody will remember this conversation.

But her statement does speak to the thinking of high ranking officials across the world including our own. What is happening is serious and every response and statement our govt makes (especially the President) can lead to serious consequences not just for Ukraine, but for Europe and the world. Even if war doesn't break out this could lead to other very serious economic consequences that WILL reverberate here too. Which brings me back to my original point. Biden HAS to be extremely careful in his choice of words.

If Russia completes the takeover of Ukraine and his intent (which he has already outlined) is to recreate the Soviet Union then that includes the Baltic States of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania which are current NATO members. Will he move on them next? If he does, NATO WILL respond.

The U.S. being a part of NATO is archaic and stupid. It served its purpose.

We shouldn’t be guaranteeing the freedom of the Baltic states.

Same deal with childhood vaccinations. When's the last time you had measles? Polio? They served their purpose and we don't need them going forward.
